say by by to msn messenger!!

My aunty just read in the paper that the government is forcing msn to shut down its chatting services due to the recent murders caused by meetings outside of the internet.

A girl in Vancouver met this guy on the internet and he killed her when they met in person.

    ....

    everyone download IM.

Don't believe it. First of all I am sure us MSN subscribers would know about it, and second of all, if that was the case they would close ALL internet meeting areas, including chats, which cause much more choas than instant messaging servers do.

If it is true than they would have to shut down ALL instant messaging services. I do not think the court will win this one.

My friend said she saw this in the newspaper. She said that it's only chat rooms that require a subscription fee. Msn messenger is still free. Either way, I still like aim better lol.

From the way I understood it, they were going to shut down some of the public chat rooms that people can log into, but not disable the service where people can add/block individual users.

That's silly. Forcing the closure of internet chatting services because someone was stupid enough to meet some creep they met online in person, and came to a bad end? Not going to happen.

That would be like forcing every club and bar in the world to close their doors because someone was stupid enough to pick up some stranger after a few drinks and go home with them, and came to a bad end. Or forcing all shopping malls to close their doors because a child disappeared from one of them once. Or forcing all libraries to close, or restarants, etc. because something bad happened there once. Never going to happen.

I read it. It said *CHAT ROOMS*...........at least the article I read. There's a HUGE difference between chat rooms and MSN Messenger. MSN Messenger is a private messenger that people use with only people they want to add. Chat rooms are open to the world. NO WAY would I download AIM over MSN. I love MSN Messenger (especially the new one 6.0). Its the best.

So sorry, I'm not saying bye bye to MSN Messenger. If its bye to MSN for me, its bye to chatting, because I have all my friends and relatives there and don't use any other software.

Ok, what I really want to know is why you all are up so late! Especially you teenagers! I'm up this late because I was drinking Mountain Dew all evening, and now I can't sleep because of all the caffeine! But, hey you kids - do your parents know you are on the internet this late?!? It's after 1:00 am Mountain time!

I am not a teenager but I still have the energy!

Dan and my son Dylan are sound asleep, so I can do whatever I want, like browse Pet Talk without being harassed by Dan. I usually am up late, but I really should be getting to bed soon.

It's 12:28am here. Not that late (typical vancouver teenager standard Lol). I try going to bed no later than 1am but I find that I just simply can not fall off to sleep until about 2am if I'm lucky.

My parents know I'm up this late on the internet...as long as I'm not doing anything bad, they don't mind.

It was on the news here too! But it is only the MSN Chatrooms that will be closed, not MSN Messenger!

Copied, pasted & edited from a BBC news report.

MSN is closing down all its chatrooms in Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and most of Asia from 14th of October. And changing the way the others are operated globally.

The only chat service available to MSN users in the UK will be the free instant messaging service, MSN Messenger, which is not so open and gives people more control over who they talk to.

Chatrooms on MSN's other global sites will either be supervised - or moderated - by an adult 24 hours a day, or will be on a credit card subscription-basis only. It means no free, unmoderated chatrooms will exist anymore on any of MSN's global network of sites.

By only making instant messaging available, chatters will be able to restrict and control who they talk to because they can only chat to people on their "buddy lists".
People need to ask permission to be a "buddy" and they need to know the user's e-mail address to make a request, which means most children only have "buddies" who they know outside the internet.
They will also continue to make MSN Messenger free to users.

Here is the link to the full story. (Once there you will also find other related links.)
