    Stupid house rules..

The place my mom is getting, has these stupid rules. I mean, shes buying the place, its a small house. But not the land (yes, I know thats not good not to buy the land, but they have something worked out..) Anyway, they had a whole sheet of rules JUST for pets. Stuff like, if you own a dog, it cannot be tied outside on a leash, it cannot run around without a leash...you have to take it out everytime yourself..how stupid is that? Also, it says 'limit to one pet' which doesn't make sense..I mean, you bought the PLACE, its yours, they can't tell you how many pets to own, esp if its a cat that doesn't go outdoors. Also, it says that pets can't make loud noices..which is understandable..but again, it IS your place..Anyway, there is 2 dogs next door, who have leashes tied up outside, and we making A LOT of noise when we went there...so, I guess they don't enforce it? I duno, I'd hate to see those dogs sent to the HS though! Gr.

Now, this is the rule that REALLY gets me..I was quite annoyed reading this: Owners may NOT own intimidating or threatning dogs such as, Doberman Pinchers, Rottweilers, GERMAN SHEPARD (I wasn't aware gsd has a bad name...) pitt bulls, bull terriors, and im prob leaving one out..Is that not the most stupid rule EVER? I know dogs of all those breeds who are SUPER friendly..they won't even allow CROSSBREEDS..?! grrrr!

How in the world is it possible to buy a house and not its land when the house is built on the land and the backyard (extra land) is part of the house?

I really don't understand this concept.

PCB- it is possible if it is called a condomimium. Maybe in Canada there are other types of owning situations that we don't have here? Those rules sound like an association type set of rules, which condos have, which some modular home parks have, etc.

If the yard isn't fenced, I don't think those are stupid rules at all. It's not safe to leave a dog tied up outside alone, nor is it safe to let dogs run loose.

The other rules, however, are stupid....especially the breed ones....I hate breed restrictions! I've even seen huskies on some of those lists!

You can't have a fence either

If you can't have a fence then I totally agree with the rule about not being tied up outside and that they need to remain on a leash at all times. However the other rules are stupid.

Sounds a lot like the town house my friend bought. They have rules about what hours your laundry can hang outside, and limits to how long your garbage can is permitted to be at the curb. And no fences are allowed.

It does sound like a condo and the rules are not unusual for condos at all. There are condos not far from me and there are no fences allowed and each morning I see lots of people walking their dogs with their humans carrying little plastic bags. Yes, there are lots of rules when you live in a condo, but once you sign on the dotted line you are agreeing to comply.

i dont really think the breed restrictions are fair.especially with German Shepherds!from what i know, they are pretty friendly.I also think that you should be alowed at least two or three pets.

Breed restrictions aren't fair for ALL breeds, especially.

Yes, I agree that they sounds lik perfectly normal leasing or condominium covenants. We own a home in a subdivision and we own the land, but we still have to adhere to the neighborhood covenants. Plus, we live in the city limits which has a leash law as well as a pet number limit.

It's just the ways laws and bylaws must be written to protect everyone involved. i have to admit that the covenants are one of the reasons we chose this neighborhood. I enjoy having guidelines, and, like Pam said, its an agreement. The alternative is to agree to live somewhere else. It makes places available so everyone can be happy.

I suppose, but how can they tell you how many animals to own in YOUR house that you bought? Thats what doesn't make sense..I ment the 'tieing up' was stupid for the reason, I agree however that its not a good idea.

We have all those rules and MORE. We live in a moble home park. There are 50 pages of rules. One is if a pet dies, it can NOT be replaced. They want no animals at all. But they let us have our 2 girls. I met Tom and he had Shep-ee (RB) and we got married, Tonee passed to the RB and we got Ashlee and then Nina. We live right across the street from the managers, which makes it hard to hide Kelcee, she gets in the window for sun and hard to hide Lucee the new foster we have. I knew the rules when I bought the place. It is private property and the owner can make up any rules that they want as long as it does not break any laws.

One rule that kills me here is, if you have a visitor for more than 3 days they either have to pay $2.00 a day to stay with you, in the house I own, or pass a credit check for $35.00. We have water meters and pay for our own use. So it costs the park nothing if I have 100 people or 100 dogs staying with me. Also no visitors may bring in their own animals, not even for a minute.

We do not comply with a lot of the rules. But our dogs are never left unattended outside, never bark loud to wake anyone. So we don't have complaints against us.

The thing is, this is a HOUSE. A small, house. She bought it. Its hers. Still the rules..Why I don't understand why you can't have more then one pet? I wonder if the rules chance once she buys the land..
