About three months ago, our local shelter board euthanized a small, sweet terrier mix, Lori. They claimed she was "dangerous", but none of them had ever even met the little mutte. A formal temperment test was never completed and the decision was based entirely on misinformation. Since that time, a group of us has been quietly organizing and planning to remove the Board. Last night was our annual AGM and it went better than we could have ever hoped. It was the largest turnout in our Humane Society's history. We had many more people than we expected. In the end, the entire board lost their positions. My husband was elected president and I was elected to the board of directors. We now have a full board of 11 members, who all seem to be enthusastic, full of new ideas and animal lovers!
I think that little Lori, the dog who started all of this, can finally rest and enjoy the bridge now! Many positive changes have come out of her short, sad life.
