He's headed to his "forever" home in Maine, Laurie! The adopting family has been fully screened and are ready for him to get there.. If you could read the info on the website, you'd want him too! He sounds perfect! I don't know how or why he ended up in rescue, but I would love to have him myself.

There is the link again. Maybe it will work better for you this way.

Is the transportation complete to Maine? Does someone need a stopover in the DC area? My seven are other-dog friendly and I have a rather large, fenced yard if someone needs a break spot. Or help with transport. He's such a sweetheart, I was able to read about him - thanks Logan.

Every leg of the journey is filled, Laurie. But I think I will send you a private message with the email address of the lady who arranges these things if you are interested in contacting her. She can add you to her list and call on you sometime, perhaps. You just let me know if you want me to do that.

He is a real cutie! One time, one of those got loose and came to my barn. He was huge. He stayed overnight at my house and then I took him to a vet who found a home for him. It was really funny when I stopped for a drink at a store. When I came back, he was in the driver's seat with his head almost touching the roof. Was very cute.

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.
    I miss you

I hear you whimper in your sleep
I gently pet you and say, no bad dreams
It will be alright, to my dog as dark as night.

How I wish I could hold you near.
Turn back time to make it so.
Hug you close and never let go.

    Logan,

Do you happen to know any Great Pyr. Rescue groups in Ind. ?
There's one at Ft. Wayne Animal Control. His name is Bernie.

I don't, Liz, but I will send this information to the lady who is coordinating this run. She is in Michigan. Maybe she knows of something!

I'll let you know if I hear anything. He is just beautiful and needs to get out of that shelter!

    Logan,

Thanks and good luck on your transport trip with Bear Saturday.

I have no personal experience with the Ft. Wayne Animal C & C.
but here's a link to their website for contact info.

    http://www.cityoffortwayne.org/publi.../adoptions.htm

ANIMAL CARE & CONTROL, 3020 Hillegas Rd, Fort Wayne IN 46808 - Business Office (260)427-1244, Fax (260)427-5514
    Pet Adoptions (Last Updated: 8/18/03)

For information, call 427-5502. Leave your name & phone number for a call back or visit the adoption center weekdays 12 - 5 P.M. and until 7 P.M. Wed. For a larger view, click on the animal's picture. For a list of other available pets, call 422-PETS.

I believe a Pyr rescue group would be better able to judge
the right folks to adopt this beautiful breed.

What a great big cutie!!!!!! I just love those Pyrs! He does sound pyrfect!!! Logan, thanks so much for helping save lives!!!

I am always being tempted by this breed!!! Maybe the perfect household would include a GSD, Great Pyr and a Leonberger!!!! Wow, what a thought!!!! Hahahaha!

I'll e-mail Kathleen at Great Pyr Rescue of Chicagoland about the Indiana Pyr. Maybe she knows someone.

    Good luck on Saturday, Logan!!!!!

Now the reason why people give up on these great animals is that they don't do their homework on the breed. They buy this cute fluffy white puppy. This is not your everyday, common type dog. Before you adopt a Pyr, you MUST know what to expect of the breed and what NOT to expect of them. I could go on and on, but I won't. In fact, I am watching one in my area shelter myself. The reason for giving up the dog was that he got too big!!!! WELL DUH!!!!! What did they think!

Liz, I haven't forgotten about you. Cathy, at the MS rescue group sent Bear on the first leg of his journey today so she probably hasn't gotten my email. Thank you, Sue, for checking on other possibilities for Bernie too.

I'll let you know as soon as I hear back, Liz. He is simply beautiful.

Liz, this is the information I got back. Do you think it will help Bernie? Keep us posted, please.

    Hey Logan!

I got this info below from Cathy when I asked if she had any Pyr contacts in the MI area... maybe this will help your friend??

<<You can try the rescue contacts on the Great Pyrenees Club of America site:

Heard back from Kathleen (Great Pyr Rescue of Greater Chicago, which BTW is a GREAT rescue group), she passed on Bernie's info to two Indiana Pyr rescuers. Hopefully they can help.

Kathleen regrets that their group can't help because there are 8 in foster right now and they are working on helping a female in Elkhart, IN, too. There are no more foster homes left.

You expect GSDs needing rescue, but now this once rare breed is being found dumped in too many shelters. Sad, very sad.
