    The Great Escape

Yesterday evening I decided to take a book outside and read for a little bit. I fell asleep for a few minutes. When I awoke Edwina was in front of me. "She slipped her harness," I thought groggily. Then I realized I hadn't let her come outside. Obviously, I hadn't latched the door and she had let herself outside. AND...it was a safe assumption that Eddie had accompanied her. Sure enough...there's Eddie enjoying his first visit to the backyard. During rush hour. (There is a six foot fence but....) I grabbed Edwina -- which is fairly easy to do -- and put her back in the house. The chase was on! Through the garden, into the bushes, across the lawn! Finally, he ran to the door -- which was now closed! I went in the house to get some turkey -- we were out of turkey. Ham just doesn't hold the same attraction.

This time I left the door open...so of course Edwina joined the fun. Now Eddie and Edwina were chasing each other around and I was bringing up the rear.

At last they chased each other into the open door. Wasn't that a fun diversion! At least I know Eddie will come back home.....

I am sure that was fun -for Edwina and Eddie. (Did you have time to notice that they took the opportunity to play together??)

For me it would have meant a heart attack and I send my deep felt sympathy to you.

Note for the future: Never run out of turkey

Phew!! Lucky Eddie has been with you for a while - they say two weeks and it should be safe to let them out. And of course, Eddie know where it's best.

However, you can expect him to stand by that door for the next few days wanting some more fun outside.

Getting Fister in from the yard can be quite a challenge, in his case, shrimps works.

Oh, Sara, I feel for you. I JUST went through the same thing with Rascal. My brother and niece were over for a BBQ and accidentally my niece let Rascal outside. He always becomes a true RASCAL when that happens. But we were having steak and I called him and he came running back indoors on his own. PHEW!!

Then my brother accidentally let him out AGAIN! By now it was dark. I was fearful because it is very difficult to get him once it is dark. What made me laugh is that my garden hose was uncoiled a little bit - and it stopped Rascal in his tracks. He didn't know what it was and you could see he was afraid. One quick scooping action had him in my arms and back into the house.

Rascal loves a good scrap with another male and he just won't believe me that he needs to rely on his memories, because those days (and the vet bills that go with it) ARE OVER.

I am glad you were able to herd Edwina and Eduardo back into the house.

Perhaps we're misunderstanding Edwina's intentions and she was in fact trying to run him off the property!

Glad you got them both back inside safely.

I came home once and what did I see? Three cats (ours) sitting on our front step. My husband had left the door opened and not noticed three cats out there. Luckily, two of them are extremely chicken, and the other is easy to lure in when she hasn't eaten!

Oh my! I would have been like Barbara and it would be heart attack city for me....once I got them back inside that is. And I know it was the same for you! I think Edwina has been outside enough that she wouldn't go wandering too far, but Eddie....you never know with him since it was his first time out in his new backyard! I'm sooo glad you were able to herd them both back inside safely. Phew!

I suppose they were acting non-chalant and had to clean themselves afterwards - while you collapsed on the nearest chair to recuperate!

Well, you gotta admit that life certainly has been interesting since Eddie joined the household.

I bet that's the fastest you've ever woke up from a nap.

    WOW, what a day!!!
Edwina and Eddie know how to entertain!!!
And I think Randi is pretty right:

Cats are just way too smart to run away from such perfect homes...I guess they were just planning some mischief and now they will relax in their cat beds and dream about their adventure, where cute cat ladies in the jungle were saved by bold cat guys, who know how to fight a grasshopper and some birds!!!

Everything went out fine and that's what counts!!!
Please, Edwina and Eddie always take good care!!!

    Nooooo problem!!!!

I was figuring out the other day.,,,,,the Friday I dropped him off was June 20th. So I thought I might just remind you of that so you can make a note of it wherever it is you keep things like this, so you can always celebrate his "gotcha" date. Especially since we really have no idea of when his birthday is.

So, June 20th to Aug 14th makes it just about exactly an 8 week weekend. (gee, wish my weekends lasted that long )
