The babies are here! Chloe is now the proud mother of 14 newborns Birth Pics too!

I had two hours of sleep last night lol. I was up all night spending the time with my Chloe girl anxiously awaiting her first litter and massaging her tummy while in labor. At 4:12 Chloe delivered her first little baby. He didn't come out as fast as he should of so he has a little bruise on his face. After the first one though, it went very smoothly and she did a fantastic job! I am so very proud of my little girl.

I got the chance to take some pics and also three videos which I will upload to imagestation later on today. I got two videos of the labor and one of her in prelabor while she was making her nest. I am also going to film her again nursing the babies and will have videos of the babies each week, to show how they grow and develope.

She is a great mother and all the babies have nice big milk bands. There is a chance of merling but the majority of the babies will be agouti, and half will be curly coated velveteens. She is such a sweety, she does not mind one bit when I go to touch the babies. I actually "helped" in the delivery as the litter was born on Carefresh and poor things had bedding stuck to them, so I got t unstick them lol. That is the last time I will give Carefresh to an expecting mother. She did have toilet paper but decided she didn't want to use that until after the babies were all born and clean.

I will post pics in just a little while. Stay tuned.......

Here are the pictures. I will try to take them out a little later on after I take a much needed nap and cook lunch for myself and Dylan.

These are the twins. They shared a placenta and were delivered at the same time. I have had this happen before but this is the first time I captured it on camera.

And here are all of the babies in the nest. You can see that the milk bands are clearly visible.

If you're listening to this song
You may think the chords are going wrong
    But they're not
We just wrote it like that

When you're listening late at night
You may think the band are not quite right
But they are, they just play it like that

It doesn't really matter what chords I play
What words I say or time of day it is
As it's only a Northern song

It doesn't really matter what clothes I wear
Or how I fare or if my hair is brown
When it's only a Northern song

    If you think the harmony
Is a little dark and out of key
    You're correct, there's nobody there

And I told you there's no one there

Me too! It looks like most of them will be agouti though, but we'll see.

Thank you everyone for the nice comments. I will be taking more pics in a few hours, it is time for lunch and a nap.

Wow, fourteen babies! I hope you get a Merle like you want, but I didn't know that rat babies can be born with different breeds, which I think got me confused about their adoption certificate (my ratties). Anyway, I hope they grow into happy and healthy rats who will grow up in good homes. I can't wait to see more pics!
    (P.S. What's a milk band?)

There are no breeds of rats, just types. Types are different colors, markings, ear set and fur type. There is a "breed" trying to be made now, which is the Cashmere rat. These rats are dumbo self velveteens. But even that is still up in the open.

What is confusing you with your ratties, maybe I can answer some questions for you? Did she provide a pedigree for the rats? This is a list of ancesters the rats share, like the parents, great grandparents etc. It should also state the rats type, like if they were a blue berkshire rex, or a lilac agouti self.

Milk bands are the little white splotches you see in the tummies of the babies. Since baby ratties are see through, you can see their internal organs and the milk in their tum tums, which is helpful when determining whether or not the babies are recieving enough milk from the mother. If no milk band is visible then there is a chance the mom is not producing enough. For Chloe that is not the case, her babies look like they are about to explode with milk lol.

I took a few more photos so I will upload those in a bit.

Thanks again everyone! Chloe really appreciates all the great comments........I have been reading the thread to her.
