What exactly is a tortiseshell cat? I think it is a certain mix of colors, but I'm not sure. Please tell me!

Tortoiseshell cats have black fur with orange spots .

This mix of color can appear on mutts and on purebred cats.

Tortoiseshell have a mix of black, cream, red and a bit of white. There are only females in this breed, in my life time. I only seen one male tortie and they are considered worth alot of money. But that is very rare to see a male tortie and same with calicos, there are only females. Here are two pictures of my Tortie:
