a croup like cough when excited???

When Taylor gets excited, like when he's swimming or playing ball or with other dogs he gets this croup like cough when he breaths out. I tell him to shhhhh b/c it's embarrassing and he stops. he's not sick and hasn't shown any signs of being unwell and the vet says that if it were allergies it wouldn't show that way, it would be more skin irritation like. He says there's nothing to worry about but just wondering if other dogs do this?????

Does he make like a weird honking noise when he breathes hard? Is that what you mean?

Nala does that when she pulls hard on the leash.

You may want to check if his collar is too tight.

It's called reverse sneezing. Billy does that when he gets nervous.

Like mugsy said, it may be reverse sneezing. If it's reverse sneezing...it'll sound like he's trying to breath really hard and almost gasping for air for a little while. It sounds scary but it's usually nothing serious. Kai has that and still has the occasional "attack". The vet said it could be allergies or even something more serious like an item blocking a path. The vet told us that most of the time, it's nothing serious but it's wise to check anyways.

If Ringo tugs on his leash too hard or if we're playing, sometimes he'll start to cough and it sounds like he's hacking something up and then he'll just cough one last time then he'll stop and he's fine I used to worry about it but I think it's normal.

    Riley "honks" like that too!!!

When we were out for our morning potty this morning, we saw a little yellow lab coming up the street (with a human on the other end of the leash)--he got so excited, he was making that noise too!! He really scared the pup though

Yup, Daisy does that too. We took her to the vet, since we thought it was something serious. When the vet said "reverse sneezing" of course I paniced (sp?) . Then he said, it was nothing to worry about.

Sounds like reverse sneezing to me, too! The first time it happened to my Cody, we were off to the vet's in a panic...at 10pm! I was just grateful to know she wasn't choking!

My cockerspaniel, Ben, used to do "reverse sneezing" all the time, and usually at the most unopportune moments. People hearing it for the first time would be agahst, and say "Oh my God, is he going to be okay"? And I'd say, don't worry, it's okay, he's just clearing his sinuses....

Most likely it is revearse sneezing if there are no other symptoms but just in case I would make sure they are tested for heartworm.

He's got all his shots and is heartworm free, it's not reverse sneezing, I know what this is and he does that to. I think it's just and excitement thing b/c he's actually done it less in the last week or so. I'm not too worried. Thanks for all the replies though.
