    Leather's leg :(

Remember what I said about Leather's leg before? Well, she has a compulsive chewing disorder, see...So she was eating away at her leg....we got medication for it before, and she stopped.

Well, she went to the beach last week, and since she swam in the lake, she has been chewing at it again. And it was sooo close to being healed, and now it's terrible again!!

My stepmom doesn't get paid for another week, so we have to wait that long to take her to the vet I would help if I could, but I'm not getting a job until summer vacation...

There is polysporin, a gauze, and tenz (sp?) bandages on her leg right now, and they are helping alot.

The attached pic kinda shows her wound before this happened...It was alot more swollen then it looks though...See how it was almost healed? Now it's a huge gash again, and it is weeping clear fluid...

What is the clear fluid? Any ideas on how to help it?

I am not a vet, or nurse, but clear fluid is better than any other fluid.

Keep the gauze and polysporin on the leg. Have you bathed Leather? Maybe that will help clean the wound abit, or maybe just clean the would with some warm water, and put the gauze, etc on it until you can get to the vet.

I am sure others on this board will have some great tips for you too.

Im very sorry... Please keep us updated on Leather. My cat used to do that...we went to the vets and he suggested we use a "collar" for her, like he ones some animals have after getting spayed/neutered? I worked very well, and it turned out she was allergic to the flea medicine we were givng her, shes all better now. So, try the collar? Keep those bandages on though!

    Thanks for your kind replies

Do you mean the cone Goldenretrlver? I don't think a cone will work, because the wound is very far down her leg and I think she could still reach it Unless they have super big ones lol

    Have you bathed Leather?
She hasn't had a bath for a while..But I think that might make it worse Baths dry out the skin, and she has very bad skin problems and allergies...The lake water is probably what made her want to chew her leg again...She does have the chewing disorder (brought on by her boredom disorder) but I don't think that she did this out of bordeom...I think the lake water made it itch

Nebo had a wart/tumor removed from his leg when he was neutered.......it was farther down/closer to the paw on him then where Leather's sore is. He had a large cone and it stopped him from reaching it, so maybe it's worth a try!

No My stepmom still hasn't gotten payed....If it was majorly serious, she would spend her food money, but Leather doesn't seem to be chewing it with the bandages on, so she doesn't want to starve quite yet lol...I'll call her today and see when she's taking her in. I'll probably go over too, and I'll take pics of her wound.
