    READ THIS - IMPORTANT!

I have just read a post on another site that you all need to know about. A paper in Oregan reported this incident but we all know that any sicko hearing of this may copy it so beware!

A Labrador Retriever was out walking with it's owner. They found a tennis ball and started to play fetch with it. The ball had been tampered with and exploded in the dogs mouth causing massive damage. The dog had to be put to sleep. The police said they had several reports of the same thing happening in the area.

Please do not pick up any ball you find and tell everyone you know about this incident.
What is the world coming to?

Tell all the kids you know too!!

Oh my God!!!!!! How sick! Boy, I would love to get ahold of that person or persons and make them play with one of their tainted balls. I sure hope they get caught.

According to a story in APBNews.com, this hideous event happened on Saturday November 25, 2000 in Portland, Oregon, USA.

To me, the most socking sentence in the APBNews.com report is:

John McMahon, the agent in charge of the Portland office of the federal
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, said that "tennis ball bombs"
appear to be fairly common in the area.

    Thanks for posting Carrie,

Just yesturday at the park I notice
a tennis ball, but we did not approach it
because I was leaving. Just incase I
do not think I will be picking up any
    stray balls.

I have also heard on the news lately about
    somebody poisening dogs by throwing
poisen food over into the back yards.
    Very scary.

I just read that article and am really pi**ed! What kind of mind would do that? I can't even imagine what kind of person would be sitting around thinking of ways to amuse themselves, and this is what they come up with? I say, catch him or them, perform a surgical castration and fill the empty space with their own invention (a la neuticals).

About the poisoning of dogs. Last year someone poisoned both of my dogs (two at the time) They almost died they were in the emergency vet for the night and the whole next day.If I hadn't come home they would have died. The sadest thing was that the police and the dog warden did nothing to try and find the person that did it. So there still out their somewhere

This is just horrifying! I know there are cruel people out there, but these things sound almost sadistic or something. Everyone, please be careful with your pets!

teena, at last a constructive (forgive the pun) and humane use for neuticals. I had a sneaking suspicion that there must be a better way to use them!

Well, considering the stupid stuff they do to Halloween candy for kids, this doesn't surprise me in the least. People get it in their heads that this dog or that person is doing something they don't care for and take it as license to do something harmful. We're having a big deal here in Tennessee about people shooting their neighbors' dogs just because THEY think the dog is vicious or it goes potty on their property or some such. Of course, retaliation is frequent and just as stupid. I simply cannot comprehend people that think this way and consider something like this "fun". Sick, sick, sick.

Okay, folks, I know the people who are doing this are really terrible, but let's not sink to their level, okay? This is usually a friendly place, and safe for all who love animals, so let's just not get too carried away with revenge-messages. If the people doing this sort of thing ever read this board, we know they'd never do again, anyway, being won over by the love for animals that is so abundant on every page!

Do be wary of stray tennis balls, though, especially when you are with pets or children - the chance is just too great to take.

Sorry, Karen (moderator) , this was never my intention. You are right, awareness not revenge was the spirit of the original post. But I am as guilty as anyone on the revenge bit.
Please be aware of the problem, not an extension of it.
