    confused about cat food!!

My Sammy has always been EXTREMELY picky about what he'll eat. He'll be 1 year in July, and the foods I have tried is just crazy. Iams, Eukanuba, etc. He HATES them, he looks at it sniffs it then looks at me as if to say "you want me to do what with this? Maybe i'll bat it around the kitchen a bit, but I won't eat it! ) He even hates people food, I tried it all, turkey, beef, tuna etc. Also tried Nutro, Friskies, etc. Well after I got his new brother, I started the baby on Natures Best from Science diet, because the vet reccomended it. They both LOVE it, I give them the dry, and 1 small can wet twice a day to share.
I am concerned, because I have'nt heard many good things about Science Diet here at PT. I don't know if I should try something else? I beleive the only reason Sammy is eating it is because Romeo is eating it, and he figures "well, that baby is not going to have anything I cant have, better eat it quick before he gets it all!) BTW Sammy was eating the pouch food from friskies for awhile, the began a hunger strike with it, and I know it was'nt that great, but he had to eat something!
    Thanks for any advice!

I had my cats on Science Diet since they were babies. I switched to the Nature's Best for a while. Then my friend told me about Felidae, an all natural cat food. I gradually introduced it to them and they love it! I also split one can of ProPlan (it's chunks of fish in a gel and they gobble it up) between 7 cats in the morning and evening, just as a treat. Since I've switched, I've noticed their coats are shiny and soft. Big difference.

    Lorraine:

No, regular science diet is not a good food, and their natures best food is even worse, not only do I know this simply by looking at the ingredients, but some of their representatives said so when this new line first came out.
Vets are not nutritionist, they know very little about companion animal food, and half of what some of them know is completely incorrect. Sorry but that's just the way it goes. Once in a while you'll luck out and find one who actually has studied it and knows a lot.

Get him off that food (it's basically junk, no offence to you, I'm just saying, since you asked.) I could explain to you the many reasons why it's junk if you would like me to was well.

Here are the best foods IMO:
    Felidae
    Solid Gold
    Natural Balance
    Wellness
Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul
    Pinnacle

    Other foods to consider:
    Evolve
    Holistic Blend
    Nutro Natural Choice
    Natures Variety
    Sensible Choice

And then the low end of foods I might possibly consider feeding if I could not get any of the others:
    Maxximum Nutrition (Walmart)
    Annamaet
    Bil-Jac
    Artemis
    AvoDerm
    PetGold
    Azmira
    Excel
    Eagle Pack
    Hi-tor
    Lick Your Chops
    Natural Life
    Natures Recipie
    Nutro
    Premium Edge
    PetGuard
    Precise
    Purina ONE
    Pro Pac
    Pro Plan
    Royal Canin
    Triumph

Good luck! And remember just because you buy a more "expensive" food does not mean it's more expensive, in the long run they can cost the same, if not less then the junk brands. Please don't buy Eukanuba or Iam's.
I hope you 2 can find something good that works!

Thanks everyone for your great advice! I feel like a rotten mommy though, for feeding my boys yucky quality food! Nature's Best S.D.
    I didn't know!
I tried to find a retailer that sells Felidae, and I have been having an awful time finding it. I checked the Felidae site, and I found a feed store locally, I went there, and they no longer carry it! They did have Royal Canin though, and I bought a bag of that for now. I sprinkled a bit of it over the kittys existing S.D. They seem to like it o.k. so far. Is this a good food?
Sammy and Romeo want to thank you for getting them off that other stuff, and educating their mommy!

Lorriane: Royal Canin is an ok food, there are some who will swear by it, I do my analysis by ingredients only. Every food has the potention to be ok or great depending on the animal. Not every food will work the same. But Royal Canin IS better then SD
