Thlemer`s spaying...

Yesterday,as most of you know,Thelmer got spayed. Since that she has bearly eaten and hasn`t gone poop at all. Is that normal? I knew she wouldn`t eat much but she hasn`t gone poop since friday morning. She has peed though!

P.S.I`m suppose to check her stitches,right?

Julian acted fine after his nutering. But guys always take it better then girls. i didn't check his stiches, but you can if you want. I would ask Karen or Daisy's mom about this question. They are much more knowledged then I am.

I've always checked my animal's stitches... sometimes they manage to pull them out and they need to be ''re-stitched.'' Also, it is very important to know if it's getting infected, of course Thelmer was probably put on some type of antibiotic? If so, that takes care of the infection 'threat.'

Thelmer wasn`t put on any antibiotic. I looked at her stitches earlier and they seemed fine!

Well I'm not sure if it's normal or not, but so me I think if she hasn't been able to eat then it would only make sense that she hasn't pooped because poop is waste from food. I also got my rescue cat Little Grey spayed yesterday and she didn't eat when I brought her home, so she hasn't pooped yet either.

I am not sure how long she will have a reduced appetite, but if nothing goes in then it is normal for nothing to come out (If you know what I mean)

If she's not eating anything then that can be a big problem.

Was Thelmer starved before her spay? I ask because rabbits and rodents cannot vomit and therefore should not be starved. Starving for any length of time can have a derimental effect on the gut and stop it working properly.

Is she eating ok now? Have you tried offering her ger favourite foods?

If she has not improved I would give your vet a ring and perhaps they can give something to stimulate her appetite.

She ate regularly before she went into surgery. Last night she ate quite a bit of hay but that`s the only thing she has eaten in a while. Thanks everyone!

If she is eating hay then that is a good sign, the hay will aid in keeping the gut working properly

Sophie didn't eat "right" for a day or two after the spay. And, as the others said, if nothing comes in - nothing goes out. It's a good sign that she's peeing!

Just FYI on the antibiotics:
ORAL penicilins such as Amoxicilin and Clavamox can kill rabbits. They destroy the good "gut stuff" (flora, etc.).

If Thelmer still isn't eating right, you might try giving her a couple tablespoons full of plain yougurt or the pineapple/pina coloda kind. Most bunnies like this as a treat plus it has the same effect as papaya/pineapple tablets.

Baby food is another option to try!
