    worried about Blaze the hamster....

I am very worried about Blaze. it says in his description that he is a syrian hamster and that he is allowed to play with other hamsters. Syrian hamsters are stricktly solitary. I hope that blazes owner will read this and goto my link below. it is very important that Blaze and the other hamster stay safe. I am sure all the other pet lovers will agree.

I think it is very nice for you to be concerned. My thought is that if there were problems with socializing, Blaze's human wouldn't allow the interaction. I'm sure that is the case.

Congratulations, again, Blaze, on being the Pet of the Day!!

I dont think the Human knows that syrian hamsters are STRICKTLY solitary *that mean they cannot play meat interact or be hosued with other animals icluding hamsters of different and the same species. PLEASE listen to me. I own 3 syrian hamster I have done ALOT of research on the computer and in many book. I also have had hands on experience with syrian hamsters. they will fight to the death if giving as chance, also they can spread disease such a wet tail *very deadly and common in syrian hamsters*... I would VERY much advise the owner of Blaze tyo keep him and the other hamster away from each other INLESS they are breeding and or dwarfs which in this case they are not.

This is a VERY big problem that ocvcurs with many uneducated hamster owners. They will house or interact their syrians and then they will breed or fight and it'lllook like they are playing but they are not.

Syrians are SOLITARY in thye wild and should STAY that way in captivity. I really hoep the owner of Blaze reads this. I am VERY worried. I am 100% sure ANY educated hamster owner would agree with my comments. *worried*

    ..........

I have to agree with TM,

Syrian hamsters like Blaze are 100% solitary, they will fight to the death eventually if placed in contact with other hamsters.

Even if they are separated in time they can cause serious injuries which can be fatal in the blink of an eye.

Also it is highly unnatural and stressful for hamsters to meet, unless they are seeking a mate, stress in syrian hamsters can make the animal more susceptible to the bacteria which causes wet-tail. Wet-tail is fatal in most cases, even if treatment is seeked promptly.

Finally such meetings could result in unwanted pregnancies.

Syrian hamsters should only be allowed to meet when the female is in heat and for only 20-30 minutes under complete supervision by someone wearing thick gloves.
    Happy to help
