I am a very happy and proud new Mum! Unfortunately, my little kitty "Pixel" is in the animal shelter infirmary as we speak ...
I adopted my gorgeous kitty from a shelter last Sunday. I was going to bring one of my Mum's kitties up to Sunny Brisbane, but she could not let little Whiskey go and Milo was had become content after a long period of restlessness.
I rang the two pet shelters in Brisbane, getting no reply at the first and a very helpful lady at the second. I asked what cats/kittens are available and the first one she told me about was a little 12 week old Siamese/DSH cross. She described the little kitty as being a blue-point with beautiful blue eyes. I fell in love on the spot, having not even seen the little one yet and told her I'd be there in an hour.
When we first saw Pixel, she was asleep, but she came over to us straight away and tried to poke us through the wire. My partner, more of a dog person, also fell in love with her and we both decided that she was to be our new baby! I was very excited as I had not owned a cat for nearly 3 years (although I have lived in one cat household for some time)
I was a bit worried about the infection from the desexing tattoo in her ear, but the attendant said it was nothing to worry about. We took her home and would you believe she endured a 50 minute car trip without one cry of protest! In fact, she went to sleep. We enjoyed a wonderful 24 hours with our new loving kitty who had already taken to following me around like a puppy.
The next day, however, I noticed that something was wrong. I could not put my finger on it, but years of cat rearing has taught me to recognise an unwell kitty when I saw one. She was shaking in a very unconcerting way and was having some difficulty walking. We immediately packed her back into the car and drove her to the animal shelter infirmary. The vet was concerned with her temperature (extremely high) and the nasty infection in her ear!
My little darling has been in the infirmary since Monday and is not likely to be released until Sunday! She has been in considerable amounts of pain and has the abcess in her ear lanced daily.
I have been ringing them every day and we are going to visit her tomorrow, but I miss my beautiful baby and I am so afraid that she thinks she has been abandoned again.
It's not the best start in life, but as soon as she gets back she is going to be SPOILT beyond her wildest dreams! I have been hoping and praying that she can come home soon as I just know she'd be feeling very sad. The one thing that cheers me up is finding a great community like this!
