    Etogesic?

I took Bandit in for his heartworm check, and asked about Rimydal. My vet said since Bandit has had some elevated liver levels that he would like to try Etogesic instead (it's just like Rimydal but only given once a day).

Has anyone else used this with their dog? Bandit is 13 and has had some troubles with his back end. He has a really hard time getting up from a laying position, and can't climb steps anymore. The vet says I should see positive results by Monday (or we'll up the dosage) and I'm just looking for some ideas of how much to expect. I don't expect Bandit to run around like a puppy, but I would really like to see him have an easier time of getting around.

Poor Bandit - he hates to go to the vet. He needs to be lifted in/out of the van (we're looking into a ramp) but this time he scooted up in between the front seats and the dash and it took about ten minutes and a couple treats to coax him out so he could be lifted out of the van.

When Carina was diagnosed with arthritis a couple of weeks ago, I questioned the use of Rimadyl because of the possible liver problems so the vet prescribed Etogesic instead. It's for short term antinflamatory relief and seems to be working well. For long term use I'm giving her Sinovi-MSM but won't see any results for a while because it takes some time to build up in the system.
Hope Bandit starts feeling better soon, give him a big hug from me.

My vet is very reluctant to prescribe Rimadyl at all, so when my Cody was diagnosed with hip dysplasia, she was put on a trial of Etogesic. Unfortunately, it made her quite sick to her stomach and it was discontinued. Now she is on a long term course of Glyco-Flex II (a glucosamine/chondrotin supplement) and an occasional coated aspirin when she "over does" it. I know that many dogs respond very well to Etogesic! Hope sweet Bandit starts to feel better very soon. It's so hard to see them struggling to do steps, jump up, etc.

Thanks for your replies! Bandit has been on the Glucosamine/chondrotin for a few years now, and an aspirin a day. The vet had us stop the aspirin when we started the Etogesic.

So far he hasn't gotten sick, and I will get his latest liver test results on Monday. I'm hoping for the best, it's so hard to see dogs get old.

    Hi,

Throw out all of the medicines and find yourself a
vet that does acupuncture. It really works. My golden
use to have to be on all of those things, but now he
is pain free and drug free.

Etogesic is wonderful. I used to use it more frequently w/ 2 of my dogs but I have been learning about & giving supplements for years & they work well, I also do a lot of theraputic massages on my dogs which helps a lot. I like to not use meds if at all possible. So now my 2 dogs get etogesic only when we go for a hike or other exercise. I give it to them about an hour before we leave. My oldest dog still needs to be lifted in the back of my truck, but he can jump into the front seet most of the time w/o any help.
Soar high & free my sweet fur angels. I love you Nanook & Raustyk... forever & ever.
