holland lops

I am getting a holland lop bunny around the end of summer, and I was wondren if any holland lop owners here could give me some more info this breed thansk in advandce I want to gather as much info as I can on them first. I will be building a hutch soon, how big should I make it? and anythinng youi know about them from experience

it would be much better if your lop was housed inside. they are very docile rabbits, I had a angora dwarf. she was so nice. I wanted a lop though

ya the hutch will be in my room it is far to cold where I live to house anything outside

I had a holland lop when I was young. I wish I could be of more help but I don't remember too much about the size of the cage and stuff like that. I remember that he was really sweet and friendly, and he was really small.

Hollands are AWESOME buns. They are so cute first of all, they are pretty small, but not too small, so a good size. They are SO friendly, and clowny, and just DANG CUTE!! lol Ive only had one, but have known a few, and I know that they are just an awesome breed. Especially for first time rabbit owners. They are pretty popular too. This is an awesome site, I dunno if youve been here before lol but it just has so much great info and resources (even has a list of rabbit vets! ) so it might have more info on Hollands: http://www.rabbit.org/

About space - make your hutch as big as possible, the more space the better it will be for your bunny.

ok I found I nice big space to build a hutch! my room has a large open closet like area no door, that I dont use, all I would need to do is put down proper flooring to cover the area, stick a front and top, to it, the ends of the area jut out into the room so I could just attach a front to the end of juts, and add a roof a very big space for my bun!

Gosh, if you have a high space. You could built a couple of floors and ramps. More space to play.

Yes, great idea! Bunnies love to go exploring and they like to be up high where they can see everything, so adding a couple of ramps and shelves would be a great idea.

I believe the House Rabbit Society says the minimum size of a rabbit cage should be no smaller than 4 lengths of your bunny when he is laying flat to the floor with his legs extended out behind him.....you measure from the tip of his nose to the very end of the extended leg. This posture, by the way, is an indication of absolute trust that your bunny has in you. The unused closet/no doors sounds absolutely perfect.

I have several holland lops. They have a very sweet disposition and are usually relaxed. If you get a baby bunny (doesn't matter what kind), know they will be hyper and get in to every kind of mischief you can think of. They are also impossible to litter train. For significant health reasons, all bunnies regardless of the sex, should be spayed or neutered at 4 months of age by a rabbit-specialist vet. Rabbits are prone to develop reproductive cancers. Also once a rabbit is spayed/neutered, they calm down some and their urine is less strong (no longer trying to attract a mate). Bunnies are also very social animals and will demand a lot of attention. I don't want to start anything but it is always better to have 2 rabbits so they can keep each other company when you are not at home. Oh one last thing, lops, because of their floppy ears, need to have their ears check about ev 2 months and cleaned when they have excess ear wax....if it is not removed the rabbit stands a chance to develop an ear infection.
