    Too many

I was surfing petfinder.com today and found that there are currently 37,463 dogs that need new homes. I think this is just in the U.S. too!!!!! Not to mention how many thousands more that are not listed on petfinder. I am just stunned.

    Rottie,
Don't want to bum you out too bad, but that
number is probably way to low.
To the shame of humankind, breeding dogs
is not not only done by "responsible "
breeders of one breed, but are mass produced
by puppy mills to be sold at pet stores
around the country. Puppies are sold like
produce, and people fuel this industry by
buying that "little doggie in the window".
Please visit the site of others who feel
that there are WAY too many dogs being mass
produced for profit, than there are homes
    available for them.

Rottie, another yucky statistic, our shelter (Fort Wayne has about 200,000 people)takes in over 900 animals a month. Some of them, their owners come and get, some of them are owners bring them in because they are old or sick and need them put down, but most of them are strays and only a handful are adopted out. One policy that I have a problem with, is that if the dog is a pit or pit mix, they keep it the mandatory 3 days and then put them down. It doesn't matter how sweet they are, just because of their breed, they are killed. They go by the guise that the liability is too great, but I am sure that it's because the woman who runs the place doesn't like pits and she decides which animals go down and which ones live. It just makes me sick.

Don't buy while shelter dogs die!!
