    Some good news on Deirdre

Well I just tested Deirdre's blood with my testing kit and her glucose level is 58. The normal range being 63-139. So she is a bit on the low side but she isn't diabetic! I told them at the clinic that I was sure it was stress that made her glucose level rise to 279. Deirdre is a VERY highstrung, intense cat. Not timid per se...just always "on". A very high metabolism. She threw off the effects of the gas really quickly yesterday. Faster than any other cat I have ever had. I just gave her some of the high calorie Wellness food and she had a good munching. So her blood glucose should be going up now. Her white blood cell count was well within the normal range and her kidney values were great so now we are just waiting on the thyroid test. Hopefully tomorrow we will hear something about that.

So far I am relieved. However, I was looking at a beautiful pic of an Aby and I realized that Deirdre used to look very much like that only with the gray tabby coloring. She has lost muscle tone and condition. Funny how when you see them everyday you don't notice the changes as first. It was the picture of Barbara's Tigris. That is almost the spitting image of my Deirdre even down to the look and the attitude. Ah well my vet is wonderful so I am sure we will figure out what is going on.

Wow, Deirdre must be a wonderful cat then

Tigris -half Aby and half Siberian- sends his best greetings to his lost twin sister and keeps his big paws crossed!!!!

I am glad the tests are all turning out negative. Now we'll hope for a good result with the thyroid test. I guess one of the good aspects is, that if it is thyroid related it should be quite easily controlled with medicine.
If Deirdra looks like our Tigris she must be one beautiful cat!

I'm glad so far the news is good on Deirdre. She must be beautiful if she looks like Tigris because he is one good lookin' hunka cat!

I don't remember, how old is Deirdre? Tubby has completely changed shape as he has gotten older. He used to be all muscle (and a little bit of tubbiness ) but now he's just weird. He kind of looks like a bull dog with the big shoulders and little haunches (sp?), but he bulges in weird places now that he never did before, so maybe Deirdre is just getting old? Oops, sorry Deirdre, I'm sure you're not getting "old" just adding a few years here and there.

Please keep us updated on the thyroid results.

*LOL* Yes we all seem to sag as the years go by.

Deirdre is seven years old. She is a very beautiful cat. Of course I am her mom so I am super prejudiced. But she has big eyes and ears and this small pointed face with all this confidence and 'tude. She is long, lean and very graceful with just the tiniest paws. If Tigris is a big cat then she isn't him in size. Just in that picture there was the body shape and attitude in the face. And she is fast..when we go out in the yard for a nice afternoon of yard work I have watched her actually sprint across the yard and run a poor little chipmunk down before it even knows she was coming. She hasn't ever killed one, she just brings them over to me or to the door so she can go inside with her toy. I then have to sweettalk her into dropping the chippie and stand over it till I can get ahold of her and it can make it's escape. Although with all the chippie holes in the yard I am afraid one of these days they whole thing will collapse in one big sinkhole.

But she is just so "cat". You know how some cats are just big cuddly furballs? My Brianna is like that. Mice are not something to chase..but to avoid...food comes in a can or bag and toys do not move on their own. But Deirdre...you can see the "tiger" right there on the edge.

Long and lean, my boy did you hear that??? (Here he is in valeriana ecstasy) And tiny paws??? No, rather not

We definitely need to see pictures of her. Tigris is not so much known for his grace -he never would be a dancer but an athlete. He has 13 lb. and is not fat -it's all muscles. He's seven years old and not a small cat.

So now it's Deirdres turn: how do you look?? And please bring a picture of Brianna too.

    And are you Irish???

    Barbara,

Hubby just promised we would get some pics of our girls this weekend.

Yes I am of some Irish decent. Canadian French, German and Irish. Like most Americans I am a mix. *L* I love the Celtic culture, art, music and language (although I can only speak a little of it). I also took some online test about your religious beliefs and found that I seem to follow the pagan road. Druidism etc. Belief in the power of the earth and responsibility to it and all life to care for and respect it and all inhabitant. Also a big one for personal responsibilty and belief in the fates...what comes around goes around. Hmmppph....probably much more than you wanted with your simple question of am I Irish.

I'm so glad that Deirdre's glucose level is fine and now I hope that her thyroid test will also turn out normal. My Sunny is half aby and half tabby and he's also quite a nervous and high strung cat. This can really make some of the test results inaccurate since stress will usually elevate the results. Good luck. All fingers and paws are crossed here.

Here's a picture of my Sunny.
