Thread: When will he stop growing?

    When will he stop growing?

Mickey is 5 months old now and kinda small, even for a Sheltie. Will he grow much more cause I read they normally stop at 6 months.

    Thanks

I'm not sure, because I've never had a sheltie, but it took Timber her full first year to finish growing

As a general rule, dogs don't grow too much after 6 months. They just tend to "fill out". Of course, there are always exceptions.

Nebo's 10 months, and he's grown quite a bit since 6 months old...I thought it took about 9 months to reach full growth, then they continue to fill out for several more months....I think it takes less time for small breeds though, and more time for larger breeds.

It depends on the size, that's true. He maybe just about done getting his height, though he'll probably fill out more in breadth over the next six months or so. Some Saint Bernards take more than a year to reach their full build, I know ours both did, but then, they got a lot further to grow than a Sheltie! Do you know about how tall his mom and dad were?

Thanks for your replies. Of course, I'd love my Mickster no matter how tall he was! I just hope he gets a bit taller...teaching him tricks are literally a pain in the back

The adult hair will be longer then his baby hair even in summer and in winter it will get even longer. In winter Some Shelties have hair that is touching the ground when they are walking. As you can see Foxy is starting to get his adult hair but it's only early. Like i said before he will have his complete adutl hair when his about 2 or 3 years old

Sometimes it's like puberty, different for every dog.
