Potty traning

Help!!!!
I have a 7 month old hyper yorkie that I can not get to potty train. Can anyone help me please? Bentley my yorkie, is the most hard headed dog I have ever owned. I am going out of my mind trying to train him. Is is normal also for him to obssieve about toys? All day and all night he is nutty for toys, he wants to play for hours at end.

What is your problem with potty training? When and where does the dog go? How do you clean it up? How do you respond (punish) when the dog goes potty in the house?

As for the toys, when you say obsessive........does he guard or growl over the toys? Or just want to play all the time? What games do you play with him?

For potty training you should buy a book called, "How to Housebreak Your Dog in 7 Days" by Shirlee Kalstone. A lot of people recommend this book for housebreaking your dog. I don't know your specifics, but crate training is the best method for housebreaking your dog. It is the safest way, and he will enjoy being in his crate, it will become a "den" to him.

I have always Crate trained. and never had a problem with it. so i am not much help. I always suggest the crate training.

Oh I know how you feel. Belle was tough to potty train, too. We tried everything, and finally we bought some bitter apple spray. When your puppy goes inside, bring him over there, stick his nose in it and say no, then give him a squirt or 2 of the spray in his mouth and bring him outside. We did that, and after a couple times, she was house broken. They really don't like the taste, and it also helps with barking. So far, we only had to use it about 4 times on her. Don't worry about being obsessive over toys, Belle's like that too She constantly wants to play Hope that this helps!!

I have had great success with crate training except and this is a big one -my shiba Byakko-she is so unpredictable and I think there are other factors here,maybe some people can give suggestions that will help us too.I use crate training but byakko goes in her crate sometimes she goes a week trained and then has accident after accident immediately after coming in frequently both wet and mess.She eats her stools if she gets to it first in her crate because of course on leash I won't let her.My vet thinks it is because before we got her her life was in a box never to know outdoors until she was about 4 months old.She had to eat it to keep the area clean.I think all this plays a roll because right now we have 3 other puppies using the same training methods,one our leonberger with a diarrhea problem being treated but she may need a specialist anyway none of the others have accidents in the house.Byakko is the only one.I do reccommend crate training though in most situations I find it works but be careful not to get to big of a crate.I may even go to a smaller one but I am not convinced that will help her specific problem.I am as frustrated as you are with this one.I definately know how you are feeling.I hope we both get some ideas here.Byakko is definately my challenge puppy obedience wise of course shiba's are a handfull.Dakota is my health issue puppy. we had the same problem crate training Kito--he would go in it, and eat it--gross!! He came to us at 8 months, and was living with a couple who show dogs--basically living in their motor home in cages for a lot of the time. He got better, and now he only goes in the house if he is mad at us--silly shiba!!!

Wow , what did you do? Did it just take time?That is the most encouraging news I have heard yet. There is hope-Yea! It is so sad that sometimes they just live in cages.I don't get made at her but it does get frustrating.Thanks so much for telling me that.
