well, I just back from the vet

to have the kitties nails trimmed...Yes, but they showed me how to do and even gave me a pair of clippers for free....MY poor Rocky boy just gets so upset when he gets messed with, and they had to muzzle him because he was putting up a fight big time It made me cry a little...but I did get to clip Fluffys nails...the nurse just held her while I did it and told me what to do..It really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.....do any of you get all emotional when you take your babies in? I mean, he wasnt in pain, but I just feel for him I guess...I hate seeing him so upset....

Well, I do Max's nails myself (thanks to the burrito wrap) and Speckles came to me declawed. So I guess I have an easier time with it. When I first got Max it took 2 wks before I could even pet him so it was about 3 months before I even attempted the nails. But once you do it you will get the hang of it. Just be as quick as you can. I do Max's front ones, then let him have a break for a while then pick him up and do the back ones. He has a short attention span and if I attempt all 4 paws he gets very annoyed and tries to bite.

Hang in there. Before you know you will be able to do it with your eyes closed. And I know what you mean about getting all emotional. When I took Max in for his teeth surgery I cried all the way home But he was just fine.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

The vet nurse at my local vet's refuses to clip bastet's nails after she was badly lacerated by her the last time I took her there. The vet suggested food treats each nail i clip and gradually decrease the amount of treats given. So far I can clip two claws before the rest come out or she bites and lashes out. Bastet is at least getting better. Treats and rewards are such wonderful things

We have people that bring their pet in for a hair cut that get all emotional. And that is only a bath and a hair cut. So don't feel that you are the only one, some people just can't stand the thought of their pet going through any thing they may not like.

I know EXACTLY how you feel! when I have taken the cats to the groomers to have their claws trimmed, or when I do the trimming myself, it's always a big deal, some are worse than others! Louise panicks, and is so scared I think she's going to have a heart attack! I feel so bad for her, I am not sure if it's easier on her to have me trim them or the groomers...
and poor Charlie, the first time i took him to have his bottom area shaved(he's longhair and the litter was sticking to his fur there) and I had to leave him I wanted to cry! when I take Louise to the vets or groomers she meows the whole time on the way! and there is no way to make them understand, unfortunatly I can't take them out for ice cream after!
