No! At least it shouldn't be legal. Why do they want to maim their dog?

You do have to declaw the dew claw in hunting dogs or they rip them during hunting. I know this will make a stir on here but I beleive in it becouse I havve seen too many that have had to be put totally under after doing so and suffering for hours getting back to a vet.
Most are done as 3-4 day old puppys. Some vets don"t give an anastetic but the vets I have worked for do. You should check with your freind and see if thats what they meant.

I belive in removing dewclaws. Its too easy for the dogs to get them caught on something. Other than that NO REMOVING CLAWS!! Aghh! thats wrong.

I've met one dog ( a golden retriever ) who had the claws on its front feet removed....it was awful, I don't know what vet would do that!!

As far as the dewclaws, I don't think its too bad if they do it when they are tiny puppies. Nebo has front dewclaws, and I don't mind them. I *hate* back dewclaws though...I'd have to have the back dewclaws removed if my dog had them...they get caught on things too easily....very hard to clip also.

You can't declaw a dog's toenails The reason is a dog's nails don't retract. The only way to declaw a dogs nails would be to remove part of his toe. (Bone wise) I don't know of a vet that would do this unless it was medically needed as cancer in the toe diget and then it wouldn't be a declaw it would an amputation.

When cats are declawed, they remove part of the toe also. It is considered an amputation.

I've seen/heard about the hind dew claw being removed if its a problem for the dog, like loose or whatever..

My cat Mollie Rose had double dewclaws when she was born. The vet told me they needed to be removed because if they ever got caught on something, they could be torn out and she'd bleed to death. It was done at the same time she was spayed. Would I ever declaw my cats???

    NEVER, EVER!!!

There is no difference in declawing a cat or a dog. It IS amputation. I have never heard of anyone declawing a dog though.
