    Advice needed

    All is not well.

Milly has the spare room as her nighttime & just for her room with pillow & litter tray etc. The door is closed when we are out and open the rest of the time.

Milly spent the majority of yesterday & this morning, sitting on the upstairs landing.

George is downstairs, napping as usually. (He sleeps in our room at night)

Milly seems very interested in George and vice versa and there has only been two hisses (from her yesterday) but they are still on edge with each other.

Milly approaches George (who watches her a lot) and after sniffing at him she bats his tail, bum or head with her paw (no claws). George retailates by sitting up and batting her back. She runs off, he sulks. Is she fighting or playing ?

Also George peed on an internal door this morning... he has always gone outside or in his litter tray. (We have two trays downstairs his & hers, both clean)
I just moved him quickly to the nearest litter tray, I take it he is just scenting his turf?

Can we do anything to help them be friends ? I have tried feeding treats when they were sat near each other.

Or is it just a matter of time ?

the only part I'd worry about from your description in the urination outside the box. Everything else seem very normal.
two litter boxes is good, but I would really try to have a 3rd and on the 2nd floor.
Clean the spot up well and keep watch on him. It may just have been an accident and coincidentally happened during a confrontation. (george is neutered, right?)

    Yes he is neutered.

But I am sure he did it deliberately.

I'll go and get another litter box this afternoon.

    Thanks

My cats like to lift their tails and shimmy them, like they would if they are spraying, but they do not spray. I think it is when they are very excited. One day out of the blue, Sterling did this an a bit of urine came out. I was flabberghasted!!! but he never it before and he never did it again, that is why I think it could be an accident.
The product feliway is a terric product for this type of behavior.. You may want to try that.

Feliway. I'll see if our local petshop has this in.

He did look funny. He backed into the cupboard door lifted his bottom, tail to one side and kind of jumped/shook and peeded at the same time. I've never seen anything like it. Is that spraying ?

That could be considered spraying, but what I am hoping is that it was out of the shock of a new cat and not out of spite at a new cat. The example that I am thinking of is how a lot of the dogs that come to get groomed will pee on the floor when they are suppose to be house trained because they are very nervous. Best of luck. Keep me posted.

It sounds like George is definitely trying to confirm his status in your home!!! Try giving him lots of extra attention and some treats that you don't give the newbie!!! Hang in there, things should work out in time!

Pay it forward, You mentioned about your cats batting each other. Some years ago, I had a litter of 3 cats who did not like each other. They used to bat at one another frequently, and they hit hard, because it was possible to hear the "thump" over and over again, as two of them would go at each other. Some of these bat-sessions would last for 10 minutes. I believe that this behavior is not particularly friendly, at least not from what I have seen of it. I have never seen this behavior since then.
