My Old Cat

My cat has a problem with his ear and teeth. Some of his teeth had fallen out and his one ear keeps on getting very dirty to the fact that we have to clean it. What else should I do about them. Should I brush his teeth and just keep on cleaning them myself. I know we aren't going to go to the vet since we already put alot of money in him, so what can i do myself???

I just answered you a little bit more at length in the Health section. And yes, if he will let you brush his teeth with a toothpaste made specifically for animals, do so.

Anakins mom is correct. Bruching with a soft toothbrush could help. But she is also correct that there are many gum and dental problems that come with a cat's age- problems that require a vet's attention to alleviate the pain for the kitty.

I am sorry to hear you aren't planning to take your cat to the vet. I have a hard time being supportive of you as I feel your reasons are heartless.

I'm sorry to be so blunt, but it sounds as if this cat has been your pet for a long time and you are now giving up on him as he ages.

If you aren't going to care for a pet, why have one in the first place? A pet isn't a toy, it's living creature that require responsibility. Money is just little pieces of paper while your cat has been your friend for his best years and now you are refusing to help him? That's not fair!

I know vets can be expensive but don't you think your friend deserves it? He needs you to help him, please don't fail him.

I kind of agree with those before me as well. Is there maybe a less expensive clinic you can take him to instead? I know it does get very expensive, but teeth problems in cats are horrible for them to endure.

You can brush his teeth at home, if he will allow you. That can really help. But your kitty may have some other problem that requires more than that...kind of like us when we go to the dentist.

Hey you. Its me, Ashley. Why didn't ya tell me ya couldn't afford the vet bills. We'll have to work something out. Maybe one of the vets around here will let you take him in for less? Or maybe you can work out a payment plan? I can stay with my mom this weekend and you can come over and well work for some money, like yard work. i know my one neighbor needs his yard weeded, BADLY, LOL. I know you don't want charity, but I'm sure we can figure something out.

brushing the teeth will not help if they are already caked with tartar. I know that money is a powerful influence but I think you'd better read your own thread in cat health to fully understand that this cat is your family's responsibility. You need to find a way to care for his health needs.
