    bettas housing very important.. :)

When housing a betta you must have a heater and proper habbitat formations in its tank.

You should never house a betta with another male betta, bettas are very aggresive toward other males of the same species.

You can house bettas with other tropical fish such as fresh water angel fish and balla sharks.

When choosing the best home for your betta dont result to a meesly bowl or jar. Even though some sites say it is ok and bettas like it. They are wrong. A batta is much happier in a bigger habitat.

Bettas are very beautiful when they flare up and show off there mighty fins and gills. If you place a mirror in the tank your betta will flare up in a flase of color.

Here is a tank you should use you your betta..

2-10 gallons> the bigger the tank the more happy your betta will be and the more often itll show off.

Here is a tank you shouldent use..

the habitat above may be appeling to the eyes but it isnt the best home for your betta because of bacteria and lack of oxygen.

Bettas are a kind of fish that dont need much oxygen but I think that a filter is better suited to a happy betta..

How to choose a healthy betta...

Look for bright colors and no forming fungus. Look for a betta that is swimming wildly and not just sitting at the bottom of the tank.

    Happy bettas look like this:

LMAO @ shais_mom's post tooo funny.

While I'm glad yours are happy... my betta is in a 20 gallon (i have never ever let mine stay in those container from the store) and he is a SUPER happy betta.. in fact all of mine that i've had have been happier in the bigger tanks.

I personally would never keep them in such a small container like what you get in a store, or the lily vases, just because I've seen how much mine adores swimming all around the tank he is in.

At the very least I would say is ANYTHING is better than those teeny cup size containers that you get them in at the petstores. But my betta would say "my tank is perfect with all it's room to roam and places to play hide and seek"

Well I dont care if you dont beleive me. it is your own fault. I know I did'nt copy it and why would I? for attention, HA. That would be funny. I wrote this post so ppl who have bettas can house them in aquariums not meesly small cramped jars. It is just commen sence.. From my past bettas I have learned that they are much happier in big tanks rather then small jars and bowls.

OMG never ever did i think that i would see a post on PT, of all places, where ppl laugh and make fun of someone else! i dont care if u think its funny, these kinds of things are hurtful....u should all be ashamed...tikeyas_mom was only trying to help and display information on a PET site where she was giving PET advice....so y does everyone have to critisize her for trying to be nice? i see the happy faces in her post, she is not accusing anyone of being neglegent towards their beta...and even if she did copy and paste it, who cares? im sure she wouldnt have been the first one here to do that...YES, lets laugh at everyone who copies things even when they r trying to help....this makes me sad...
    I've been BOO'd!

Whether she gave right information or wrong, its not nice to make fun of her. She's new and we don't even know her that well. Give her a chance. Its not nice.

    Ok, first of all...

Did you guys ever consider that Shais_mom might've wanted the link to check out more information from the author? Possibly even to write the author with her thoughts?

Second of all, the author (whomever it may be) has not done his/her research. Bettas come from the muddy, shallow rice patties in Asia. No, that is not ideal for our pets but this is where and how they became the hardy fish we have today. Bettas breath from the surface of the water which is different from most other fish. Taking in oxygen from the surface allows them to survive in those small petstore cups (which I do not approve of by the way).
Do you need proof? Here check out the International Betta Congress (IBC) it's one of the best info sites out there.

I have to say I agree and disagree with your pictures.
I agree in that I, personally, would never use a "vase/plant" set up. My reason is two-fold: 1. The fish can become trapped in the roots; 2. While beautiful, this set up requires more care/cleaning than a tank set up.
I agree you should not use something like the first vase/plant picture. Why? Again, bettas are surface breathers - in this set-up, the water is all the way to the top of the bowl -- no room for the fish to breathe.
I do like the second vase/plant pic tho. Plenty of surface area for the fish to breathe.

I very much disagree with the pic of your 'happy' betta. He is in fighting/breeding stance. The second pic shows a relaxed (though possibly ill -- hard to tell due to the poor quality of the picture) betta.

from wolfsoul: OMG never ever did i think that i would see a post on PT, of all places, where ppl laugh and make fun of someone else!
Wolfsoul, you don't make it to the General section very often do you?

u should all be ashamed...tikeyas_mom was only trying to help and display information on a PET site where she was giving PET advice
Point taken. But if giving advice, it should be more substantial than "this is a picture of a happy betta -- this is a picture of an unhappy betta." How do you know he's unhappy? Did he ask you for prozac?

I'm not picking on tikeya's mom, her intentions were well. However I do find 'holes' in her advice. Learn some more about the fish, their physiology, and natural habitat *then* start giving advice.

Well said zip! There are definitely holes in her advice. I just don't agree with making fun of her when she's so new. You said it very well!

I know I did but I didn't criticize her. Just said its untrue with an explanation. LOL

Ps. I never said its ok for her to give wrong info on the bettas. Just said not to make fun of someone relatively new.

Oh, and BTW Aly. Are you still thinking of getting a tiel?

I like my Bettas home. I would like him to have a bigger one, but the two gallon hex tank he's in is just toooo nifty!! AND, my room stays the perfect temperature because of my beardie's ungodly hot heat bulb! ^.^

    Thank you Wolf_Q!
