Reece is on Sensible Choice which is excellent, especially since he's got a sensitive tummy. I am thinking about switching to Innova though. I have to go clear across town to get both of those brands because PetSmart and Petco here don't carry them. Its okay though. My baby is worth it and he loves the car ride

I think Eukanuba, Iams and Sensible choice
    are all good dog foods.
    I started feeding human grade,
Innova and Canidae a few months ago
with good results. There are many good
dog foods out their, (some better than others.)
    My theory,
Check the ingredients,(the first ingredients listed are the most used, and so on.)
Look for the guaranteed analysis and feed trials.
Feed a food that your dog likes to eat, that keeps him looking good and healthy.
What works for one dog might not work
for another. So sometimes it takes
a few tries to get it right.

I was told Iams was animal tested ?????? I don't know if that is true or not so I stay away from it. I have Hannah and Copper on Pedigree Skin and Coat System both canned and dry, it works great for their coats alot less shedding. Pedigree aslo has alot of treats that they LOVE. Hannah also eats Science Diet Light Treats.

If you go to http://petoftheday.com/talk/Forum5/HTML/000426.html , bugmom said that one of her friends told her that in you put Pedigree Dog Food on a brown paper grocery bag, you can see all of the oil and greese in it! Yuck!!! I've never fed Sadie anything else but Iams!

There is no BEST dog food. Sure there are the good ones and the bad ones. But every dog has different nutritional needs. You can't feed sled dogs the same you feed couch potatoes.

i beleive the all natural raw diet is best for dogs. under that, of the foods i've experienced, i beleive pet botanics is great. (i havn't experienced anything like flint river to give my honest oppinion on it.) sadly all i can affford at the moment is Pro Plan. the family keeps telling me to buy less expensive stuff since i'm on a low budget right now, but i refuse to go to anything of a lesser quality.

(iams products? YUCK!!!! i'm on a misssion to get the word out that the stuff is garbage. "good" list of ingredients, but something they do to it causes cancer in dogs. some people do fine on it, but they are dam* lucky.)

"Lablover" thank you for that comment, Im going to go and try that and if it is really greesy I will switch to something else. I have just spent the last month or two getting Hannah to lose 15 pounds so I don't want her eating that if its real fatty. I do like it for her skin and coat though. Any other dog food great for coats ????

I know one dog food that is great for their coats: Eukanuba "Omega Coat Plus", to help maintain a lustrous coat. If I find more, I'll let you know!

I just recently switched to Nutro Natural Choice for large breeds. Has anyone heard anything about this? They haven't been on it long enough to notice a big difference. They like it better than the old food though. It has glucosamine and chondroitin in it for their joints and is guaranteed to give them smaller, firmer stools.

This topic always makes my head swim. Ilovehounds, when you say Iams was animal tested, I don't understand your objection. I would think that any maker of dog would would test feed it to animals to see how they like it and whether or not they thrive on it. What is the objection?

My dogs have been on Iams Lamb and Rice. They love the taste, never get sick of it, seem to be healthy, are "regular" with firm stools.

Here's a website that compares dry dog foods. It lists the top three ingredients, preservatives, fat, protein and kcal/lb(???).
    http://www.frii.com/~phouka/dogs/dog_food.html

I don't know how accurate this is. If it is, Eukanuba, Science Diet and Iams all have corn as one of the top three ingredients.

    Stenograsaurus,
I used Nutro Natural lamb/rice for
5-6 yrs. with great results for
    my female dog.
IF it wasn't for my male, and also
wanting to try a human grade
kibble I would still be using the
Nutro. Give it a chance and see
how your furry does on it.
