    Help With My Puppy!!!

I have a 3 Month old Blue Weimaraner puppy!! She sleeps with us.. and normally she is really well behaved....... BUT.....

The last two nights.. she isn't sleeping..she's walking on my head?? At 40 lbs.. this is quite uncomfortable...

She is getting up.. (like not sleeping) and roaming the bed now normally she sleeps between me and Joey no problem.. and her head is about at our shoulders or armpits and occaisionally she'll sneak her head up onto the pillow.. but the past two nights.. she climbs up standing over my head.. and tries to climb on my nightstand.. and then laying above my head somewhat on my head on my hair and rollig around and trying to push off of the wall...??

She's also pushing at me all night with her paws...

She is teething.. and most of her top teeth in the front have cut thru and are still coming in...?? Could this be what's causing this...

I had the suggestion to crate her... but...
she loves sleeping with us.. and always does.. her crate is in the dining room downstairs.. I fear she'll see that as a punishment... I love having her in the bed too.. I just want to get a good night's sleep??

How about a compromise? put a dog bed on the floor side
of your bed and have her sleep in it. She will try to
jump on your bed for the first week, but if you are consistant
about the new rule, (no dogs no longer on your bed), she
    will get the idea.
At least you will have a good night sleep after she learns.

My first question... is she house trained already? Does she have any accidents?

Second question... How long has she been sleeping with you? From what age?

Third question... What do you do when she steps on your head and doesn't let you get any sleep?

I believe a 3 month old puppy should not be sleeping in the bed with you no matter how much you want it. You need to establish that you are the alpha over the pup and one of the best ways to do this is to let pup know the bed is yours. Now with that being said, I also let my pups sleep in bed with me but..... and it's a big BUT.... never until they have completed a puppy kindergarten class and are completely house trained. Usually this happens around 4 to 5 months of age depending on the pup. The puppy class helps them to understand you are the boss too but also gives them the socialization they need with other dogs. This is very crucial at this point in their young lives.

I use the crate until they understand that being in the bed is a priviledge and not a right! I do however put the crate in my room so the pup can be near me. Dogs are very social animals and most do not like to be isolated from their owners.

WE do have a doggie bed for her too.... (several actually she's spoiled rotten!)

I am not sure how we can keep her on it unless we leash her down on the floor.. (which will mean a lot of barking!)

Anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Anyone else's pups stop sleeping thru the night while teething or around 3 months...

Here's a pic of my cutie!!

    Answers...

she is Mostly potty trained (she does have accidents when it's raining and we bad owners don't make her stay outside till she finishes her buisness, or when we owners are bad and fail to recognize she is asking us to take her out!) (so really it's us that are badly trained!)

She has been in our bed since she came home and has never ever had an accident in the bed... (she came to us at 8 weeks) she is now...17 weeks...

We have been DESPERATELY seeking a class for her , but in the mean time teaching her what we can on our own... she does:

    Sit
    lay down
    rollover
    sit pretty

She seems to understand we (fiancee and I) are in charge... when scolded she rolls over and puts all four in the air...

(she also does this with my sil's Bulldog when we visit)

We have been socializing her with other dogs as much as possible (because we have been unable to find a class for her)
    My Sister-in-laws have...
A Bull Mastif, a Hound dog, and an English Bulldog, My father has two Teacup poodles, a girlfriend of mine has an Akita... Our neighbors have a Mastiff, and a rottie...

so far it seems if the dog is still... she is curious and wants to meet and play... BUT.... (the bulldog) my sil's doggie Belle is wayyyyy excited to see her cousin Blu... and though she doesn't jump on blu is hyper and lunges at her she does the whole submissive thing.. (unless she is on my lap) then I think she feels that Belle is threatening her mommy and gets snippy and barks at Belle...

And as if I am not already being long winded enough...

I yell at her.. put her back where she belongs on the bed.. and tell her to lie down.. I then try to go back to sleep...

What frustrates me is she has been so good up until now.. and she seems to be... looking for something or... uncomfortable when she is behaving this way in the middle of the night?? I really thought it's because of her teething?? or maybe growing pains.. she was... 15 lbs when she came home and she's now 40 lbs.

(also anyone got a great place to find puppy classes!! she's soo smart and loves to learn so beyond the good doggie reasons to train her I think it will make her a much happier doggie!)

    Thanks for all the help!!

First, I wanted to say that she is such a cutie!!!
I don't know exactly what could cause it, but I understand that you want it to stop. As hard as it is for you, get her off of the bed. My dogs used to sleep with us too, but they now have their own beds in our room, and understand that they are not to come onto our bed, unless invited up (sometimes when hubby goes to work early, I let them come and sleep in with me...shhhhh)
If you have to use the crate, bring it into your room--she may whine a little, but she will get used to it.
Ask your vet about trainers or classes, or go to a local pet store and see if they have any information for you--that's a good way to start. Good luck!!

Hi Roo! If I remember correctly (it's been a while since I posted here), the pictures only show up if they are linked to somewhere on the web. Otherwise, they show as an attachment. But it's ok, everyone's used to the attachments here.

Welcome Rooroo and Blu! You are such a pretty young lady!

I'm not sure if you can use anbesol or not, we just gave Chester TONS of chewies and he seemed fine. His teething didn't bother him too much.

About her not sleeping. One question, does she get enough exercise during the day and a lot in the evening? She could simply have extra energy. That's certainly what it sounds like. Chester was restless in the night after he hit about 4 months of age, but soon calmed down. We found that long walks and LOTS of fetching and a Kong really helped. Whatever you can do to wear her out in the evenings, do it.

And I personally think sleeping in the bed is ok, but that's a personal choice. Both of ours sleep with us. Chester has slept with us since the day we brought him home at 8 weeks.

If your pictures are on your computer they will show as an attachment. If you use imagestation you can right click on the photo and go down to properties. A new box will open. You'll see Address and next to that, there’s a lot of info there. Just highlight and copy that. Come back to pet talk and either start a new thread or reply to an existing one. Click IMG, paste and ok. That's it. If you don’t use imagestation, try it its free and very easy to use. You can store an unlimited number of photos there and it's easy to upload to. imagestation.com

    Great... thanks for the info..

well could be... the past two nights.. (since this started...) My future Hub.. and my little brother (who lives with us)...

Haven't been home to help me.. with her.. or the house..etc...until dinner time or later.. (by then we usually just watch tv.. normally we run her.. play with her..etc.. right after work.. and ... she is crated all day... )

My poor baby.. it's probably our fault.. and I have been so mean and yelled at her (for keeping me up...) when I am the reason she can't sleep either...

I'll let you know how it goes I promise to Wear the lil un out...

and I will so try imagestation..

I would love to show you some more pics of her.. she is so adoreable.. and she just loves to have her picture taken.. here's another just cause I can!! lol (this was when she first came to live with me!)

Aw, she's so cute! My dog is a 1.5 yr-old pointer mix. We adopted her in October, and she's the same size as your puppy. She is about 40 lbs and only 2 feet tall.
