Today Carl & I went to our first Open obedience trial.
To get a CDX title you have to qualify 3 times in Open. A qualifying score is at least a total points of 170 or more (you start out with a perfect 200 and points are deducted for crooked sits, lagging, etc.)
These are the exercises we had to do (they are all off leash)
A heeling pattern and heel in a figure 8 around two posts.
Drop on recall, (call the dog, then midway they must down on command, then come again when called)
Retrieve on flat (Retrieve a dumbell thrown 20 ft from handler)
Retrieve over high jump (same as above except the dog must go over a hurdle when going out and also when coming back)
Broad Jump (the broad jump is a set of 4 jumps, the highest being about 6" tall. They are set so the dog has to jump long instead of high. On command the dog must go over the jump and return to you.)
Sit Stay (The dog must remain in the sit position for 3 minutes while handler is out of the room)
Down Stay (The dog must remain in the down position for 5 minutes while handler is out of the room)
To keep you from waiting, Carl qualified! Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
