    POTD meet?

Someday in the future we should all get together, i mean all people from Pet of the Day. It would be really cool to see what we all look like, and of course bring our pets!
Or maybe if they come up with those hologram things like in space movies? where you don't actually have to be there but your image and voice is there.
BTW does anyone baptize their pets? (JUST ASKING)

    Karlicat,
You and I have no excuse not to meet. We're at least in the same state!
But in answer to your question about baptizing pets, I haven't heard of that, but many churches "bless their pets" on a special day each year, with a special service. I wish ours would. I think it is a lovely way to thank God for our wonderful friends.

I met Rottie when she and Carl participated in an Obedience Trial in the town next to mine. She is just as sweet in person as she is on these boards and Carl is amazing, so calm and such a pleasant disposition and so BIG!

Well, if you should ever travel to australia, guys...!!!
I agree with Logan about the lovely tradition of blessing of the pets. It's done on October 4 which is World Animal Day & also the Feast of St Francis, the patron saint of animals.
There's a listing of churches throughout the US which have pet blessing ceremonies on this day.
It's on the american catholic site but churches of all denominations are on this list. Go to http://www.AmericanCatholic.org/Features/Francis
Then Click on 'Pet Blessings across the US'
A list of place names will come up. Click on each place name to find the service details.

    Angel,
I'm so glad you had that information. I thought it was a Catholic tradition, but I wasn't sure. But all of us could learn a lot from that wonderful tradition.

Where in Australia are you? I have another internet friend, who has a Golden Retriever named Molly. She lives in Perth. But Australia is huge....so you might be on the other side of the world from her! Let me know. Maybe we can link the two of you up.

Hi, Logan. The blessing of the animals is not just a catholic tradition. If you check out the list of churches that have ceremonies, you'll see that many are other denominations. I love one of the churches on that list which says that pets of all religions are welcome!
We live on the very opposite side of Australia to your friend & her golden retriever, Molly. She lives in Perth, on the west coast, on the shores of the Indian Ocean. We're in Brisbane on the east coast, on the shores of the Pacific Ocean.
We own a golden (7 yr old) Tibetan Spaniel...not a common breed. When we're carrying her, people often ask if it's a golden retriever puppy!
Would your friend like to join Pet Talk? As we keep saying, it's the nicest, most supportive & caring of all the pet forums.

Several of the churches by me have a "Blessing of the Animals" every August. It's quite a site! All animals, of any kind, are welcomed, as long as they are well mannered! I live about an 1 1/2 from Karen, our moderator. And, I know there are a few other people from Mass. on the forum. Wouldn't that be a blast; for everyone to meet!

Karen and Tats, we all live in MA and Daisy would love to meet you all, especially Star, her new online pal As for baptizing, Daisy is blessed every year on the Feast of St. Francis of Asisi. Our church holds a Blessing of the Animals day, open for all animals. My best friend and neighbor takes her dog Moe (Daisy's boyfriend) and we walk there together. There are all kinds of animals there! Horses, chickens, dogs, cats, gerbils, turtles, goldfish, guinea pigs, birds, and I myself have brought hamsters and hermit crabs Anyway, it's a beautiful service, and the priest comes around and puts holy water on every animal and says a prayer. Daisy, being the mascot for CCD, goes first up in front of everyone and she is a good pup when she gets splashed even though she hates water She doesn't even freak out at the cats. When we get home, maybe it's all in my head but she is better behaved! What a little angel! I would suggest this blessing for anyone in any religion. Make your dog a holy dog

It would be so fun to meet everyone, humans, feathered, scaly and furry creatures alike! We'll have to think about this, though I did meet Smilla when she came to the Boston area in December looking for a place to live - she went to a realtor in the same building I work in 4 days a week, so she just had to come upstairs!

Star is thrilled to have Daisy consider her a doggie pal! Lots of hugs to you all. GOT to get up your way to say hi! You're both so close! What a special honor for the beautiful Daisy girl! She truly is so special. You must be SOOOO proud!
