Happy and Chris are home.......

after being neutered yesterday. Happy, was up and walking almost immediately after bringing them home. However Chris is a different story. He was very lethargic, and didn't move much. In fact, I was a bit scared because of his defeciency of energy. He kept laying wherever it was warm. Last night I placed him on my bed, and he went to sleep, but I noticed his breathing was labored with a stuffy nose. This morning he is up and about more, but is still sleeping a lot. I gave him some clavamox for his stuffyness, and now he is still sleeping, after eating a little. I suppose he will be better by the end of the day. Normally he is full of energy and running through the house chasing Fawn or playing with his "dingely bird". I am beginning to believe that his lethargy is due to the stuffyness in his breathing rather than from the pain killers from his operation. He was sneezing a littlle yesterday, before taking him in to the vets. But at least his eyes have stopped watering and oozing, like they were when I first brought him home last month.

Some kitties don't take anesthesia as well as others, but it may just be that little bit of a cold in his nose. Keep an eye on him and let him sleep it off. Alll the best, to all your kitties.

Hopefully Chris will be feeling well really soon. He may take a little longer to recover (if that's it) than other cats. Keep us posted.

I hope that Chris is feeling better! Squirt had the opposite problem after he was neutered...the vet told me he would be sluggish and sleepy for at least 12 hours but it turned out that the anaesthesia wearing off turned him into Maniac Cat and he started zipping around the apartment, knocking over the stereo and trying to climb the walls. His pupils were completely dialated and he was breathing very loudly. It scared me quite a bit and I was just about to take him to the emergency vet when he started calming down. Anyway, long story just to say that cats are completely unpredictable..

Please give Chris a head scritch for me.

Glad to hear everything went well for Happy and Chris. I'm sure Chris will be his old self in no time, it's probably just a combination of his stuffiness and less of a tolerance for the anesthesia like everyone has mentioned.

Hi Wayne - hope Chris is improving and as everyone else has said he's probabley reacting to the anesthetic - hope so. Some more serious sleeping should have him feeling much better - back to his normal self. Will you give them both nose kissies from across the miles xxx - and don't you be a-worrying about dem kids!!

I'm glad that Happy and Chris made it through their surgery okay. I hope Chris will continue to improve and be back to his self in no time.

Thanks for your interest, all. Chris is back to being his normal self this morning, chasing around the house, playing with his"dingely bird", and tearing things up as he uses them for a launching pad!

I sure was worried about him on Tuesday evening, however. I had never seen a cat just lay around as I did him, after being to the vets'. When I picked him up, he acted as though he was dieing, being so limp and supple -with no expression, nor any noise from him. The only sound from him was a loud meow when Happy began to attack him -when he was in that condition! Happy was up and about, but not up to his normal self either. When I took them to the vets', I managed to get both into a single carrier, however, on bringing them home, the assistants had to place them into separate carriers, one of them being theirs, which I also returned. As they said, Happy was attacking Chris. Yet, neither did that when they are both their normal selves, and do not cause trouble now. the only reason I can come up with is that Happy associated his discomfort with Chris and because they are both males. Chris is the most active of the two, however.

Oh, Wayne, if anyone has a right to worry, it would be you! You have been through so much. I am glad to hear that Happy and Chris are doing so well!!!

Yeah! Glad to hear Chris is back to his old self!!! Must have just been the anesthesia - poor guy. But now he can defend himself again, so watch out Happy!

Gosh you're brave - it's bad enough getting 'one cat in one porta prison' the thoughts of getting two of the little........sweethearts in the same one - WOW!!!

Lynne, When I made arrangements to bring them both in for neutering, I told the vet assistants, that I would bring 'em in one carrier. But Tuesday morning after placing the two of them in the carrier, I heard 'em beginning to meow and fuss at each other, so I took Chris out. Happy was meowing almost alll of the time he was in the carrier before I took them in. Yet, when it came time to leave, I hurridly placed Chris in with Happy again, realizing that they would soon forget their differences after I got 'em into the truck. They were more taken up with the traveling than with each other. That is how I managed to get both of them in one carrier.

Although, I had never heard these two fuss at each other before, it took me somewhat by surprise.
