    an unexpected package

We got home from work tonight, just before a really wicked storm rolled thru, and there was a small box by the garage. My husband was dropping me off by the garage and then going to park the car in front of the house. I approached the box and found...wait for it....a 2-3 week old black kitten! Eyes are open, very vocal, whoever left it knows we are suckers evidently. The neighbor said he originally saw the box by my husband's truck, we went to make sure there weren't more....so at this moment in time the little one jokingly named Demon by hubby, is falling asleep in hubby's arms after having some KMR. The next 2 days are going to be interesting as I am going to be taking the little one to work with me so I can keep feeding. Hopefully nobody in my office fusses, we'll see. But it is either bring him with me or call off and I just got back from vacation today so calling off wouldn't work well....any/all advice would be greatly appreciated. We have never had a bottle baby before.....I will post pictures as soon as I can....

OMC! A kitten ... in a package?! It's a good thing you came home today and found him (or her)! If you brought a wee kitten to my work - you'd have an office full of kitten babysitters and no work would get done Bless you for caring for this tiny kitty!

Oh, goodness! Thank heavens you found him! Besides keeping him warm and fed, don't forget a mother kitty helps stimulate them to poop, by cleaning them and pressing tummy toward tail direction with her tongue! You can do this with a damp cloth!

According to my husband who was on kitten duty last night the little one slept pretty good. Woke up around 1 and hubby had to wake me up to feed him. He said he just couldn't get it settled down enough to eat...I must have the magic touch we have now learned exactly how messy kitten poop is but fortunately everything is washable, including the kitten. He got the kitten cleaned up and the laundry will get washed when we get home tonight. Hoping to get in to see the vet late today and hoping they can take over the care as we really can not do this. I am hoping that my new office manager understands but it was either bring the little one in to work or call off so take your pick....

Oh my! I am glad you found the wee one.

When I first got RB Chestnut, I took him to work with me for 3 days. He was older, was eating on his own. But he was so sick, he needed meds every 3 hours, eye drops and such. I didn't tell anyone, and I took an aluminum pie pan to put litter in for him. He slept alot as he was feeling so poorly.

Good job taking care of the kitten. I wonder how many people have smuggled kitties into work...

I got Mac through a smuggling operation. My supervisor at the school I worked for at that time had poofed this pretty orange boy from her neighbors, who were abusing and neglecting him. She brought him in to work, asked everyone if they wanted a kitty, no takers, so she left him with me while she went to get him a littler box and food. Of course he stayed on my lap and wore me down (it didn't take long). I'll bet somebody at work will want to adopt him when he is old enough. I still have Mac (or does he have me?) 11 years later.

Yahoo! One of the vet techs is going to "foster" for a few weeks and then a good friend of mine is going to adopt the little one. The vet said that other than a great deal of flea dirt (but no live ones!) and the need of a bath, Demon looked and acted perfectly healthy. They agreed with my guess that she is about 3 weeks old, weighed in at just about 1/2 pound...and I definitely had the most popular office yesterday. Even some of the guys I work with were coming in to visit when they heard there was a kitten in here. It was so funny to see them turn to puddles of mush

I'm glad to hear that the kitten is healthy and that you now have a vet tech to take over so you don't have to continue to do round the clock feedings. It's also great that she now has a forever home. I wonder which one of your neighbors put her in the box and then brought it to your home? Do you have any guesses? I wonder what happened to the rest of the kittens?
