Aww that almost brought me to tears. Hurray for that woman!! We need many more people like her. If i ever get rich I will have a 24 HOUR dog rescue line. More than once i have found dogs running around and called the SPCA who said they don't pick up strays after hours, and to either keep them overnight or TURN THEM LOOSE. I was soooooo angry! Once on my way home, I found THREE huskies loose. I grabbed what seemed to be the leader of the pack and the other two followed me home. I had a 13 year old dog at that time so we put the huskies in the backyard (they had no tags) My conscience wouldn't allow me to turn them loose to who knows what kind of a fate, so my mother allowed me to keep them overnight in the fenced yard. They destroyed her garden *lol* and in the AM i started to make some calls, I forget how, but i got the number of a vet clinic and they said to bring the dogs there, and they would put them in cages until the owners were found. My neighbour and I piled the three dirty dogs in his car and drove to the vet. The receptionist recognized the dogs! she said it wasn't the first time they'd run off LOL.
I have brought many, many stray dogs home, and when i was a kid i even tried to bring 'stray' cats home, much to my mother's horror! (they weren't strays just cats ppl let outside) LOLOLOL.

Cudos to Ms. Torres. I'm going to copy that article and send it to Belinda Lewis, who runs our shelter, and pretty obviously, hates pits. It's the policy of our shelter to hold the dogs for 3 days and then put them down. When I was looking for one of our lost dogs, I went every other day to look and had to be escorted by Ms. Lewis or another girl, who I can't stand because I brought one of the employees to tears because I stopped at all the cages with pits and talked to them and told them I was sorry that they had to die...my response to that..."GET OVER IT! and change the policy." Btw...the article DID bring me to tears.

THREE DAYS??!?! that aint much of a 'shelter. There's a no-kill policy here now to my knowledge which is good, but the over-crowding is unreal! you have to pay to surrender a pet which means some #$#$# will probably turf them out on the streets. For god's sake, unless you are a professional breeder you should get your pets spayed and neutered. And for the record, I think there are too many breeders out there, there are literally thousands of "mutts" needing good homes. I have been owned by two "mutts" and both of them are/were awesome, awesome dogs. Let's not forget the poor kitties too.

I think breeders should stop too until the problem is taken care of, but I know I'll make enemies with that comment.

That woman is an angel! What she is doing is so great.

I hate people who still think pits are born vicous man eating beast. Personaly I have Never met a mean Pit Bull. There was a pit that came in to the Hopital to get a skunk bath. She was so sweet. What a tank of a dog. The only way she would hurt someone would be with her tail...that thing was dangerous LOL All the pits I've met at the Animal Hospital are great family dogs. And most families had young kids that came in hugging/hanging there doggies Pit are so tolerant.

What an awesome article! Kudos to that lady.

However, I was confused by this quote:

"The nicest thing you can do for those dogs is euthanasia," said Eric Sakach, director of the West Coast office of the Humane Society of the United States. "People who think you can rehabilitate these dogs are well-intentioned but naive."
Where did this come from?? Here this lady is working so hard, why would they quote something like that in this article?? Shame on them for saying something like that. Am I misunderstanding, or did I miss something?? That is so untrue, and that from the director of the Humane Society!?!?!?!?!?
