    Sadie

Writing this in memory of Sadie (Momma Cat and grandmomma cat). About three weeks ago I lost Sadie girl. I have been around lots of cats over my life, but this one was the most interesting.

Sadie came to me in the summer of 2007. I was in the process of building a new house out in the country and noticed something moving around the building materials. I found this yellow and white cat. She was scavaging for food. She did this for several nights before I decided to bring out some cat food. Over the next few months she slowly would let me get closer and closer. Finally in December when I could close up the house. I have her a choice to stay in or go out. She stayed in. And wel,l she never left. I basicly built a house around Sadie.

In finally got moved in. That year she had 12 kittens. A litter of 4 and a of 8. Sadie was the boss of the house, And she let her babies know it. It was not uncommon for her to break of a fight between the boys. Both of us would go to were they were fighting and she would look at me and I would ask her if she wanted to handle it, and she would. They wouldn't dare strike back at mom.

Later on I took in another cat and yes there was more babies. Sadie, the grandma, took over after their mom and weaned them. They were her grandbabies. I found good homes for some of them the others I kept. BTW I have Lots of room. The second of the two litters, Sadie was super grandma. She really took care of them. She nursed them with some of the three year olds joining in. The summer started well, but didn't end so well.

This last August I noticed a lump on her tummy. I took her in and they removed it and said everything looked fine. The first weekend in October I noticed she was breathing heavy and I managed to get her an appointment at the vet. The vet had very bad news. The lump we had removed was most likey cancer and it had spread. There were little bumps all around where the lump had been and one under her armpit. Doc said she couldn't breath well because of a tumor pressing on her lungs. He gave me some meds and said it would help for a while, but the outlook was not good.

The next couple of days I helped her eat. And once I heard her breathing very heaving, I went to check and eventhough she was very sick, she laid on her side and was going to let her grandbabies nurse. But she wasn't able to. Then only three days later, she stopped eating. I knew then it was most likely to be time. That night I brought her three daughters in from out side to see her. Also that entire week she slept outside my bedroom door on a quilt. Her choice. None of the cats that normally slept with me did, they were with her. So that night I decided that if I could not get her to eat in the morning I would call the vet. But I didn't know if I could do it. I had hoped she would just slip away in the night.

The next morning I got up and Sadie was missing. I looked all around for her, and never did find her. There was a way outside, but she had never used it, nor did I think she even knew about it. Sadie had apparently decided to do things her way, which was normal. She left the way she came, in the middle of the night. I looked for days both inside and out. I have not found her. I know at this point she is gone, but I have kept keep the things I was going to bury her with in a tub, in case I do find her.
BTW her grandbabies and two of her daughters continued to sleep on the quilt for a few more days as it probably smell like her.

Who new this stray and wild cat would end up being the best momma and grandmomma cat I have ever seen. Sadie you are missed.

I guess Sadie fet that her job was done, that her Kittens were in a good pace, and that it was her turn to become an Angel.
She certainy is one Amazing Cat, and a Cat who show up we humans in terms of being intelligent and resouceful.
Sadie will have her wings of Silver and Gold, and that will be quite a reunion

I meant," said Ipslore bitterly, "what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?"
    Death thought about it.
CATS, he said eventually. CATS ARE NICE.
