More pics after Irene passed by (over 80 photos)

After I shared the other 2 photos and video (see here: http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?t=169355 ) the storm continued. In the end, we did have a tree limb come down.

    "We did?"

"Oh yes, I see it now."

    Hanging by a "thread"

I had to borrow 2 saws, one on an extension pole from neighbor Bob, and a hand saw to deal w/ the thick end of the limb, from neighbor Manny; neighbor Calvin came down to help me get the darn thing out of the tree. After that, I was on my own. Took much of today, but it is now roadside, ready for collection:

Willy eventually got his nerve up to get close to the smaller branch, the one he had barked at yesterday. (He ended up peeing on it! :doh

All my helpers got quite tired today: (Willy left, Sugar right)

    More photos to come.

This morning, I took a short walk around the area that I usually walk the pups. I walked Marlin (had to lift him over some trees), then I took Lacey and Willy, and finally, I took Tasha.

There is a large low income complex at the end of our street. They have tons of trees and a crew of 8 worked there all day. Not done and will be back tomorrow, I am sure. The only chain saws going in our neighborhood were in this area.

For now, they are clearing streets and side walks, and stacking stuff for removal later.

This is all from one large tree, in ONE of their parking lots:

As you can see from the trunk, it was a large one!

    Lots more to come.

A common scene as you travel around:

Rather shocking to see what happened at this white house (series of photos)

They have been busy with clean up:

Yet look at what is STILL to do!

    Plenty more pics coming up.

Don't know if you noticed, it missed the shed completely. :whistling:

It seems my camera battery was dying, sorry some of these get a bit fuzzy.

So that white house is up the hill and over one street. Walking distance, quite close by. I took a ride, I went 1.5 mile out, looped around and came back.
    Another common sight:

A microburst passed by down that way, which is why I wanted to go see it. Keep in mind, I did this trip late afternoon, after cleaning up my place. So you see work HAS been progressing. Lots of this:

For now, crews are clearing streets, not doing any removal or repairs. But you can imagine!

This was worrisome to see! No power at all in this neighborhood.

    More photos to come.

    Old tree

This area has no electricity yet. It went out early Sunday morning.

Residents have posted not to use this street; authorities haven't reached this far yet.

With so much power out, many businesses didn't open today. But some did, and those folks haven't been able to start their clean up.

    Stay tuned.

At this intersection, 4 trees came down. You can see the broken tree trunks, 2 on either side.

Close up of one of them.

You can see they have just cleared the street and piled it all up.

    Still have photos to post.

Back at home, this is part of the dogs' daily walk route (when we don't go to the farm). On the left is a path we follow -- that is where I had to carry Marlin this morning, and the downed trees are still there.

    This part, they cleared.

It is mind boggling. This is one small area. Not a 1 mile radius, just 1.5 miles down and back. And this is repeated all up and down the eastern coast! The RI Governor did a helicopter view this morning (saw them pass as I was out in the back cutting my limb). He went with members from FEMA and RI EMA (Federal and state Emergency Management). He said you can't see much from the air, with the tree canopy, so they had to go out in vehicles. In March 2010, when we had the floods, they could see it clearly from the helicopter view. Not so this mess. So I guess the numbers of folks without electricity help to tell this story.

This tree: is so rotten, it's a wonder it hadn't come down before.

Other trees are healthy ones, you can tell how strong the winds were.

The hollow tree is huge when you look at the people standing by it. The trees all got a good pruning during the storm. I hope no one was hurt human or animal.

I know, right? And yet, the top branches were all full of leaves.

As of 5 PM, still over 100,000 electric customers w/out power here in RI. In Coventry, RI, still 60% are out! And across the line, Seekonk and Attleboro Mass still have many many outages.

Willy had no Agility class tonight; still no power there.
