    Rotten flowers and sunlight (pics)

A week ago, we had some sunny days, and I took pictures of withered flowers and rotten leaves, illuminated by the sunlight. Posted them on FB tonight, but thought I'd share them here as well. I was surprised how very much the colors of the background varied by only changing my position a little bit. I just love my Tamron macro lens!

I don't understand how anyone could ever say that your photography wasn't good enough to publish or enter in any contests. (I believe you said this in a post a year or so back).

Kirsten - your work is truly amazing. You can even make "rotten flowers" look magnificent!

MAN! I wish I had your skill with a camera!! You are SO good!! Great shots again, as usual!

Have to say (again) though, of all you have taken, that slaughter house one STILL impresses me.. That is such a haunting picture..

    Thank you, pomtzu and Laura!

Well, actually I have entered pictures to a contest a couple of times, but they never took any of my pics. I have also sent cat pictures to a cat magazine, but they have never been printed.

Yup, the slaughterhouse pic... it's actually a composition of 4 or 5 photos, I worked with layers (like the hand reaching out for the sheep). It's indeed a haunting picture and I was so sad when I made that, mourning for all these poor little souls...

Kirsten you amaze me with every picture you post here. Real talent there, you're fantastic with a camera. Love the pictures. anyone who can capture the essence of dead flowers has a special something inside...you have to keep sending your pictures to every magazine you can think of...have you sent any to art magazines? They would be much appreciated by people who buy the magazines.

I'm with Asiel on this. You have to keep sending those pics to the companies who put together and publish magazines etc etc.
    Fantastic shots mate

Kirsten, maybe it is like book publishers - they won't take unsolicited manuscripts. Except for the contests, maybe magazines don't accept unsolicited photos.

If you haven't already, you might email a couple of magazines and find out what their photo submission policies are. But maybe you have done that already.

Keep entering any contest you can! It'll get your pics out there!

These are absolutely gorgeous. You should become a professional or start selling your work or something. You have a gift!

Oh, and I'm jealous you have a macro lens because I really want one, they're just out of my price range . Your lens takes amazing pictures!

    Kirsten......

If you wouldn't mind, or upset others, could you post that slaughterhouse pic Laura spoke about. I believe that's one of the few that I haven't seen, and it does sound unique. If you'd rather not, then I understand.

I think some of my very favorites of yours, is the group you posted of frost patterns on windows in your apartment building - last year I think. I love anything with the details of patterns in ice, frost, the unique shape of every different snowflake..........they just fascinate me, since no two will ever be the same, and they are so delicate looking.

It's this one (it's also on my photo website), and it always goes with the poem below:

    Don't look away!
    for my heart
    is full of grief
    for all these innocent
    and lost little souls.
    I can hear them crying,
    and through the open window
    now comes
    the foul smell of death
    on the wings of a
    soft summer breeze...

I made this in 2007 when a muslim slaughterhouse (mostly for sheep) opened right across the street where I was working. When I looked outside my office window, I could see the building. Being vegetarian, this was pretty difficult to bear.

I remember these ice pics you're referring to, I think that was two years ago...
