    Sadie hurt her leg...

On Christmas Eve, Sadie took off out the back door after something [probably a deer]. No one saw what happened since it was dark, but there's snow and ice everywhere so we think she slipped. She came back at the door 10 minutes later and wouldn't put any weight on her back right leg.

Of course, being Christmas Eve...vet's closed. Sadie didn't seem to be in any pain so we just kept an eye on her [my dad carried all 50 lbs of her outside to use the bathroom every few hours..]. Christmas she seemed back to normal...except for the fact that she wouldn't put any weight on that leg.

It's so bizarre - she's not in pain, she's eating and drinking fine and moving around fine, she just has that back leg tucked up. The few times she's tried to put weight on it, the leg has buckled beneath her

I felt her leg and she didn't react at all until I got to her hip area, where she started twitching and whining.

Anyways...she goes to the vet tomorrow morning [hopefully] so I guess we'll see then what it is.

I hope it's nothing serious...she just had surgery last month to remove a couple of lumps, we really can't afford another one right now.

    Prayers for Sadie.

You just never know with these dogs, lol. They can do something a thousand times and just land wrong once.

Well Sadie's still at the vets. She wasn't cooperating with the vets so they're going to sedate her and then do a more thorough exam and take x-rays and such. Right now, they're thinking it's something related to her ACL.

Oh geez, I was hoping you didn't say ACL! My RB Lacey had ACL surgery on both of her back knees. It's great they can fix it if surgery is needed but would have been nice to just be a sprain. Still hoping.

I was thinking that and didn't want to say it.

It can be corrected with surgery. The tough part is, the dog must stay relatively still and calm for the 6 weeks of healing. The first 4 days or so are OK as the dog doesn't really feel up to much anyhow. As healing progresses, the pup is like, "What? I feel FINE! I wanna jump and run!"

I know several folks who have had this surgery for their bichons. Bichons tend to jump off things like sofas and land "wrong," tearing the ACL. After the 6 weeks healing, all of them are good to go!

Poor baby. I was thinking maybe she dislocated her hip since that's
where the pain seemed to be. I hope Sadie doesn't need surgery to fix this.
