What a beautiful black bunny is Blackie! He's so sweet-looking and shiny...
I briefly had a sweet, little half wild female bunny who befriended me in our neighborhood after someone moved in who had a ton of rabbits and then turned them loose. There were rabbits everywhere. You can easily imagine this was not a good situation at all, most especially for the rabbits.
There was a small, black beautiful female bunny whom I named "Baby" because she was small. She liked my back yard and since it was winter with snow on, I started putting bird seed down on the ground for her and built a little shelter for her at the base of a butterfly bush. She really liked that situation but I was so afraid she'd get hurt. I caught a neighbor boy trying to hit her with a big stick when she ventured out in our front yard and it was then that a Fed Ex driver delivered something to me and as I was talking about Baby, he said he had a ten year old girl who was wanting a young rabbit. This was ideal as I had already run off a red-tailed hawk which was sitting on our privacy fence, eying Baby and there were dogs and cats in the neighborhood who would have gladly had a rabbit to eat. I caught Baby, put her in a cat carrier with some food and water and the Fed Ex driver, bless his name, came back that evening and took her home with him. I had found a good home for my precious little "Baby" bunny. I missed her, surely, but I was so relieved that I didn't have to be so watchful over her for it was only a matter of time until she met the fate so many other bunnies in the neighborhood has met. One neighbor was even shooting them with a pellet gun to eat. Although I hunted in my younger years (I'm fifty-nine now and haven't hunted since I was about twenty-five), I don't now and couldn't stand the thought of my beloved little bunny ending up on those people's table. I was grateful to get her out of here. A few days later, the driver left a note saying his daughter and Baby had really hit it off, with Baby following her everywhere. I was so relieved I cried. There's something about a rabbit that touches my heart...
May Blackie live a long, happy and healthy life, with lots of good food to eat, warn, sunny days and cozy nights to sleep and build up energy for the following day. And may the Lord bless you for taking good care of Blackie.
