I can't stop watching it. Maybe I am old fashioned, but each miner's arrival brings tears to my eyes.

I am glued to cnn.com right now!!!! The rescue is SO amazing. I can't help but get emotional at the arrival of each miner. I see their wives crying as they hug and kiss their husbands, after a long 69 days of grief, fear, pain, and a glimmer of hope, and to see them being able to see and hug their loved ones after such an ordeal brings tears to my eyes. Its incredible. May God bring them all out safely. May God bless the rescuers for their efforts. Can you imagine going down in there to save your fellow human beings? Wow. What a brave, brave act. I am touched to see the Chilean president and his wife, standing there through the whole night, being there to support the families, and to welcome each and every miner back to the surface. It is truly amazing.

    Back to cnn...
The 17th is on his way.

    PCB,

I'm glued to the tv too!!! My eyes well up everytime another one reaches the top. I hope Chile has a huge celebration for these very brave men!! I just hope for their part they aren't "exploited" by the media, etc. After 69 days, they certainly deserve some privacy.

I'm born in a mining area and when I was a kid in 1962, there was a big explosion in a mine and 299 miners died. Noone in my family- but there was no kid in my class friends and family of which were not touched by this disaster.
Both of my grandpas were working in the mines and my mom's dad died in an accident down there 2 years before I was born at the age I have now.
Miners are very proud men- as they know they can face their death daily.
My heart goes out to these people. Seeing the sky again after such a time- it's a first class miracle!

It's just such a testament to the power of human endurance and international cooperation! Such a happy day, and were I the Chilean President, like he, there is no way I would be anywhere else at this moment!

    This event is awesome.

What boggles my mind - people around the world are as one today, watching the men come up. China, England, Austria, Iran - everyone is watching and praying. Why can't we continue to be as one once this is over - why do we have to revert to our old ways?

Fascinating image from inside the mine...the two rescue crew gesture as the last miner is situated in the Phoenix capsule and heads up to freedom.

One miner's rescue reveals winner of wife-girlfriend rivalry

    Wed Oct 13, 7:02 PM

SAN JOSE MINE, Chile (AFP) - The scene that greeted the emergence of one of the 33 miners being rescued in Chile Wednesday revealed which of two women fighting over him -- his wife and his girlfriend -- triumphed in his affections.

Yonni Barrios, the 21st miner to be hauled to the surface, stepped out of the escape capsule to be hugged by... his mistress, Susana Valenzuela.

Valenzuela and Barrios's wife of 28 years, Marta Salinas, had come to blows weeks ago, when both claimed to be the woman Barrios was pining for as he sat trapped in the mine in northern Chile.

In the end, Salinas declined Barrios's invitation to be present alongside Valenzuela when the 50-year-old miner was winched to the surface, Chilean media reported.

Newspapers said that, though Barrios and Salinas were still technically husband and wife, they had in fact separated years ago and Barrios had taken up with Valenzuela.

"I"m glad he's safe, it's a miracle from God. But I'm not going to go see the rescue. He asked me to, but it turned out he had also asked the other lady and I have decency. One thing is clear: it's her or me," Salinas told reporters, according to the daily El Espectador.

Barrios, an electrician by trade, had served as a sort of doctor for the trapped group of miners when it was discovered he had rudimentary medical knowledge.
