Sunny cat, an adoptee, an update

When the next door neighbors left last month, they also abandoned a large tan, neutered tabby cat. I used to hear a cat crying out over there especially, when I first moved in here. It was only recently found out that he was crying out because of being hungry. So, when the new owners took over the place, they said I could have the cat. But getting him over here has been a job. So I started feeding him ( and 4 other large cats) on the back porch. Yesterday, I made a cat door in the basment and (attempted) to run Sunny through it a few times. Since the weather has been getting near freezing every night, I decided to place one of my wooden box-shelters under the stairs into the basement and I stuffed it with a used wool blanket and put out some food and water for Sunny. Tonight I found him in the basement and apparently he is using the pet door. It is getting too cold and rainy at night for an obviously, outside cat to stay out there. I would eventually like to get him into the house to become one with my managerie, but right now I am afraid of Otis attacking him. Has any one had a simliar experience with an outside cat?

(later) Sunny is larger and heavier that Otis. He is larger than I recently thought. I do not know what he weighs, however it must be around 12-15 lbs. Also, that he is losing weight because of being inside and sleeping in the box shelter. When I first got him inside, he could just barely fit in the entrance of the box. But now, he has little trouble fitting in there and sleeping much of the day away. Of course, he can get outside whenever he wants. When he starts crying out, then I know he is either hungry or that he wants attention. After spending a few minutes with him and giving him lots of hugs and scritchies, he calms down.

Wayne, my Biddy came in from outside and I feared that we'd have big territorial fighting. We has our share of posturing and our spats, but nothing too serious to worry about. Otis is your newest and I always have found that the new guy "has the most to lose" (in the heirarchy) and they usually put up the biggest fuss. I would probably have Otis be one of the last ones to introduce to Sunny. Try introducing Sunny to a more docile "couldn't care less" kind of cat.

I am thinking that I will introduce Sunny to the others the same way I did Otis, by placing him in the carrier and then see how the others react to his presence- that is, if I can get him into the carreir.
