Hows' this for a find?!?!(Proof That Microchips Work!!!)

Missing Fla. Dog Found in Denver Suburb

DENVER (AP) - A dog apparently stolen from a Florida mall two months ago was flown home Friday after being found in a Denver suburb, nearly 1,500 miles away.

Sidney, a 12-year-old blue heeler mix, disappeared Sept. 28 after being tied up outside a mall in Jacksonville, Fla., as his owner shopped. Dean and Robin Chambers assumed their dog was stolen because his leash and water bowl were missing.

A tipster told them last week the dog might be living with a family in Littleton, south of Denver. Detectives there tracked down a man who told them the dog had been brought back from Jacksonville by his estranged wife, who left the dog behind when she moved.

Examination of an implanted microchip confirmed the dog was Sidney and the Colorado detectives made arrangements to send the dog back to Florida.

Dean Chambers said he and his wife won't press charges.

``It's just so exciting to see the folks out there in Colorado go over and beyond to help us retrieve him and take him into their own family,'' Chambers said.

That's great that he was found. Amazing that he made it all the way to Colorado and back.

That's really good! Both of our girls have been microchipped. Now we just have to have Destiny's switched over to our names on the owner information though! She had already been chipped when we got her!

Yes, that's great that the dog was reunited with it's owners because of the microchip...but.. am I the only one bothered with the fact that they left their dog tied up outside a mall!?!?!

And what happened to their dog is the reason I would never do that.

I hope they learned a lesson.

I just had my Yorkie Molly chipped last week - at the same time I had her spayed. Figured while they had her out, it would be a perfect opportunity.

The very thought of losing her was too much for me and I wanted to take every precaution I can to keep her safe. Not that this is the only way, but it's a good one.

lol....I was thinking the exact same thing. I don't know, somebody who would tie their dog up outside of a mall maybe doesn't deserve to have a dog...That's just asking for trouble. The dog could be stolen, let loose, teased, hurt, etc.

I'm glad the dog was found though. I don't have a microchip in Nebo yet. I was going to when I had him neutered, but then he ended up having that wart thing which cost me over $60 and I didn't have enough money left.

Could somebody please explain it to me how the database works? I mean...like if I moved....is there a way you can change the microchip info?

Kimmy, I am in total agreement with you! Why in the world would anyone go to the trouble of microchipping their dog and then being so callous as to leave it tied up, alone, outside of a shopping mall?? How ridiculous!!

But I'm glad the chip worked and hopefully they learned a valuable lesson. Poor baby.

    Amy,
When you have them microchipped, you are giving the toll free number to call AVID or whatever company's microchip you have. You can call them and make the address change. I'd make sure the vet has the new address information as well, just in case there is ever a problem.
That reminds me that I need to do that right now!! Honey and Lilly are both microchipped with AVID chips and I haven't changed our address!
