Missing Fla. Dog Found in Denver Suburb
DENVER (AP) - A dog apparently stolen from a Florida mall two months ago was flown home Friday after being found in a Denver suburb, nearly 1,500 miles away.
Sidney, a 12-year-old blue heeler mix, disappeared Sept. 28 after being tied up outside a mall in Jacksonville, Fla., as his owner shopped. Dean and Robin Chambers assumed their dog was stolen because his leash and water bowl were missing.
A tipster told them last week the dog might be living with a family in Littleton, south of Denver. Detectives there tracked down a man who told them the dog had been brought back from Jacksonville by his estranged wife, who left the dog behind when she moved.
Examination of an implanted microchip confirmed the dog was Sidney and the Colorado detectives made arrangements to send the dog back to Florida.
Dean Chambers said he and his wife won't press charges.
``It's just so exciting to see the folks out there in Colorado go over and beyond to help us retrieve him and take him into their own family,'' Chambers said.
