I would say you could put the jar on the counter for the night..
Does sound like something to try.. However like Richard which Vinegar to use.. I would say its Apple Cider Vinegar..

Here in the UK brown vinegar usually means malt vinegar. We use it to pickle onions, on fish & chips and some other dishes.

Most home remedies for cats and dogs ask for the apple cider vinegar and since they are calling it brown vinegar I would assume it's A/C.

That is what I was thinking.. You can use Apple Cider Vinegar for lots of stuff.. If you can stand to drink it = its also a good internal body cleanser..

The only problem I see is that most if not all cats hate vinegar.
And yes it is a good body cleanser....I take a table spoon a day. I love vinegar.
