Taggart and his foxtails...Nevermind

Mr Taggart got ANOTHER foxtail up his nose yesterday. This is his third one and he hasn't even been with me for two years yet.

The first one he got at our house and it was because the weed-eater was broken. That will NEVER happen again. The next two have been at my brothers while we were away. My poor SIL feels horrible, but she can't help it. I just told them that he is now grounded. He cannot be outside without being on a leash or a tie-out. I'm going to bring a tie-out cable we have next time we go up, so he can still run around but not through the weeds.

Are there any other suggestions on how to avoid this? Cutting down the weeds would be a HUGE chore since they have several acres. My SIL was talking about getting a couple goats (her friends goat just had babies), I'm sure that would do the trick. My brother wants to invent a mask type thing to go over the nose. I don't know how well that would work, he'd probably just paw it off.

They want a solution because they don't want any of their dogs getting them either. Especially little Abbie Girl since she's so close to the ground.

I'm open to hear any other ideas if anyone has any experience with this problem. Thanks!

The doctor did not find anything in his nose. So either he sucked it up and swallowed it, or something else was irritating him. She said she did find a couple hairs. Oooookay.
So it's good that there wasn't one up there, but it still cost me the same amount anyway. And my poor boy still had to be put out. Goofy Dog!

Oh Taggart, not everything needs to be sniffed! If Abby is so close to the ground, she'll be in less danger, as the plants are tallish. I have never heard of a dog getting one in his or her nose, just caught it the tail fluff!

Well the weeds are still green right now and they are low to the ground or blown over by the wind (or dogs or horse trampling them over).

Like I said this was Taggarts third (or would have been). One of my sisters GSDs got a couple embedded under his skin many years ago. He laid in my lap while the vet removed them. That was an experience for me. YUCK!!!

But oh yeah, they get plenty in their fur. And Taggart with his big old fluffy tail. Luckily Zoee had just been to the groomer so she didn't have a lot of hair to get them caught in.

We have the tie-out plan in action and will be using that in a couple weeks when they go back.

Fence in an area for the dogs to stay?
Fence in the weeds to keep the dogs out of that area? And keep the goats IN until they finish their job? LOL

This is what my brother said when my SIL mentioned getting goats. He'd need to build fences. Again, it's a big job that requires money too.
We will see what long term solution we come up with, but for now Tagg gets tied up. He won't be out long (or hardly ever) on it anyway. But this way when all 5 dogs go out the person out with them won't have to worry about him running off through the weeds. He won't like it at first, but he'll get used to it.

Oh, they have been talking about fencing off that back area so my nieces horse can stay over there anyway, so that might help too. IF it ever gets done, that is.
