Keegan went to the White Coat!

Keegan had a vet appt today for a possible hot spot on her belly. The vet gave her some antibiotics and was impressed that I knew so much about hotspots and allergies for goldens etc.
She gets vitamins everyday and he said as long as it keeps her looking like she does, to keep it up. And they have really helped Kylie's rodent ulcer flare ups too.
    OH
    SHE weighs
    87 pounds!!!!!

Honey and Lilly said to tell you that you have their complete sympathy, Keegan, with the itchy belly. They have "been there and done that", but thankfully, not lately!!!

Hugs to you for being such a good mom too, Staci!!

Please pardon my ignorance, but what are "hotspots". I've never heard of them before.

    Cookiebaker, no problem!
Hot Spots are allergy spots dogs (and I assume cats too) get that can get worse and worse over time if not treated and get infected and grow with time. I talked to the girl that owns Keegan's mother and she said she had a bad outbreak along her back legs this summer with allergy spots, so I thought maybe these spots on her belly could be one. I had never had a dog that had these, as my last dog was a greyhound, and goldens are more prone to them then other dogs.

Thanks for the info, Shais_mom! When we first took Malone to the vet, she made some off-hand comment like "oh, I hope he doesn't have the skin problems of a golden" and I wasn't sure what she was talking about. Malone is only like 10% golden so hopefully we won't have any problems, but now I have an idea what to look for.

My Goldens have never had hot spots, but they have had breakouts (bumps) on their bellies in previous years. I think I have that under control with food now. But the biggest problem with a hot spot is that it starts as an innocent bump or abrasion and the dog messes with it until it is a huge, angry red spot that usually gets infected. Our Labrador Retriever, Chuck, used to get them on his back, right above the base of his tail, and we would have to take him to have it shaved, put him on steroids, etc. And sometimes they started with something as simple as one flea bite!

It's not completely fool proof, but keeping them "flea free", plus keeping them on a high quality food (no corn) is usually the vet's first suggestion. Hope Malone never has to deal with it!

Sorry I didn't see this before now.

I'm glad the hot spots are getting better on you sweetie! Roxey said she was glad to hear everything went good at the white coats for you Keegan (not one of her favorite places to go ). Take Care girl!

Thanks! Keegan doesn't mind the whitecoats b/c people make over her!!!!
Now I think maybe the Keflex is making her sick, b/c she has been vomiting a little. But she is also eating grass. I think for lunch she is going to get some chicken and rice.
