    Itchy face!!~UPDATE #8

I'm stumped, and thought perhaps that someone here might have an idea what's going on.

Myndi has an itchy face, and is constantly rubbing her face on the carpet, or even worse, the bed half the night when I'd really like for her to be sleeping, so that I can sleep too! She scratches at her face too. She and Sparky always had seasonal itching, and probably some due to food allergies too, and I changed them to a no grain diet a couple of months ago. It's the Veg to Bowl - the same thing that Freedom has the fluffs on, and it has done wonders. No more itching and chewing themselves, Sparky's goopy eyes cleared up, and their fur is in so much better condition - nice and soft and silky. This face thing started about a month ago. I checked her ears and cleaned them, so that's not the problem, unless there's something further down that I can't see. I noticed that the skin above her eyebrow was a little reddened a couple of nights ago, but that's back to normal now.

I made her a vet appointment for Tuesday, but in the meantime, does anyone have any ideas? It's just so strange that it's only her face.

Could it be a tooth that's the root of the problem? Sometimes they seem to be rubbing their face but it turns out they have a problem tooth.

Thanks for the input. I never would have thought about that.

I'm hoping that's not the problem tho, since she has a heart murmur and I don't know how safe it would be to put her under.

Guess we'll find out on Tuesday.

Now I'll worry myself till then...........

Try not to worry, Ellie. A bad tooth is the first thing I thought of, too, and if she does need to have it pulled, we'll just send up some super powerful PT prayers. Keep the faythe.

Thanks Sis - but you know me - I'll still worry.

She's not a Spring Chicken anymore and will be 14 this month. Of course she doesn't think that she's a senior, since she still acts like a pup. Her vet and I have to whisper when we refer to her age so that she doesn't get offended. She doesn't know the meaning of "walk", and runs everywhere she goes. She's never really been "sick", and her only health issues are her bad knees and the heart murmur which she doesn't even have to take any meds for. I can't even remember her missing any meals because she wasn't feeling good. She does have bad breath, but that didn't really send up any red flags, since she's always had it - "buzzard breath" as we call it around here!

Okay - I'm gonna try not to worry since I don't know for sure what I'm worrying about!

I hope I'm wrong about the tooth Pom but it it is that they'll know how to administer the meds , might just give her antibiotics and a light twilight sleep. Get yourself settled with a box of chocolates to help you stop worrying - like you say, you'll know Tuesday....was your vet closed Monday? She might be finished scratchiong by Tuesday so try not to worry.

We're back from the vet with good news - no bad teeth and no ear problems. Heart checked out good - no change in the heart murmur, and no fluid in her lungs. She's lost about a half pound since she was in last August, but that's probably from the healthier diet and is beneficial with a heart murmur.

So we're back to the old seasonal allergies the way it looks, since they usually flare up in the winter. I'm actually thinking more like the dry heat in the house, since the house is all electric.

Doc commented about how much better her coat is tho, since I changed their diet, and Myndi also has no more dandruff that she used to get really bad. It's still a little odd tho, since it's only one side of her face that's bothering her.

Anyway - she had a Pred shot, so that should take care of Miss Itchy. I didn't realize it was so long, but she hasn't had one since last February.

And Doc is such a super gal - again she only charged me for the shot and not for the office visit - just like she did when I had Sparky in when he had Lyme's.

That is good news, Ellie. And it sounds like you have a winner of a vet, too.

Hey Dr Maggie - I thought of what you had said when she got the all clear on the teeth and ears.

I still think it strange tho that's it's just one spot and not all over that she itches - like she used to. But then again, we hoomans get dry spots that itch. I'm just glad it was nothing worse.

Now we can both get a better night's sleep.

I sweat I NEVER saw this thread prior to the vet visit!
I am glad it is something easy to cope with.

Be sure to add the oil to that meal with Veg to Bowl, and vary the oils. That is what I was thinking before I reached the end.

So she always has these winter allergies? Poor gal. Sounds like you have a sure fix, that is the best news! Belly rubs to Myndi and Sparky both!
