I saw a Kay's Jewelers commercial this morning while watching the news that I found particularly annoying. This lady is rocking her new baby, with a perfect Christmas scene in the background. Her husband says he just can't wait, and gives her a piece of gaudy jewelry. Then they proceed to have a sappy moment, and the commercial implies that giving expensive gifts = true happiness.
It's like retailers want you to believe that your life will be perfect if you can only find the right gift(s) to give. It makes me want to abstain from buying at all.

I always dread the commercials & the songs on the radio.. It can get as bad as hearing election campains..

And in prime time no less. I feel sorry for the parents with children who see these commercials, and then the kids want an explanation.
at my feet
They are particularly mushy, and of course, there are more of them at Christmas, but their object is always to convince you that your life is incomplete without their product.
