Mom Forces Son to Kill Pet Hamster

    Jan 23, 2010
A woman is in jail after police said she forced her 12-year-old son to kill his pet hamster with a hammer as punishment for bad grades.

The sheriff of a rural Georgia county said the boy told his teacher about the killing. The teacher reported it to state child welfare authorities, who contacted police.

The 38-year-old mother, Lynn Middlebrooks Geter, faces charges of animal cruelty, child cruelty and battery. She remained in a jail early on Friday and it was not immediately known if she had a lawyer.

Jail is the right place for her. I hope the son gets counseling, and has a father with a brain to help him through this.

Not to mention the emotional abuse she has inflicted on her son, I have no doubt there is physical abuse also. Anyone who abuses animals or forces others to with intimidation would do anything to a child or someone weaker. What a devil

    OMG.

That poor little boy is going to need some serious counseling! And a good foster home, IMO.

That "mother" is lucky that her son didn't turn that hammer on her and he may just do that one day, if not on her, then someone else. At least now the hamster is feeling no pain but this boy has to live w/the emotional pain forever. Counseling? I don't know. The mother needs it just as badly; they should have it separately and together. Is there a father in the home? What an awful story!

Yeah, it's terrible when stuff like that happens.
I learnt not long ago, that the last of "Bears" brothers and sisters were put down by the farmer who I originally got him from. I asked him why he put them down (they were shot of course) or not simply given to the local RSPCA, and his reply was "Well they wouldn't work the cattle good enough, and the RSPCA costs money". This particular farmer owns some 4000 acres of prime country, and probably makes gazillions of bucks a year. But unfortunately, it's the way dogs are treated by the farmers.
