LORAIN, Ohio -- It's a story of friendship and camaraderie: two dogs found on the side of the road, one refusing to leave the other's side.

Now Lorain County animal rescuers are hoping to save their lives.

A driver found the Rottweiler and the poodle late Monday night in the middle of Tacoma Avenue.

The woman realized the Rottweiler couldn't move and the poodle wouldn't leave the injured dog.

With the help of a neighbor, she brought the dogs to the Lorain County Animal Emergency Center, which is now hoping to find the pair a good home.

The Rottweiler's leg has a very large tumor on it and will have to be amputated.

Anyone interested in helping the two dogs can call the facility at 440-240-1400.

    2 PM Thursday Uppy-Date:

I just called "Lorain County Animal Emergency Center" at
    440-240-1400 and got this update:

    1) The scruffy Pooodle got a make-over - a bath, brush, & CLIP!
The Tech said she now looks GREAT and seems to feel that way, too!

    2) The Rottie has a tuff road ahead -
    * the leg with the tumor will be removed - no chance of saving it
    * the cancer has spread - some lesions seen in the chest
    * ER Doc gives a 6 month to 2 years prognosis ... Plenty of time for some *Lovin*

Tech hinted that absent an "owner" showing up,
the two dogs WILL stay together and be adopted out as a PAIR.

News5 came back this afternoon and shot more News5 Video.

Donations ARE being accepted for their care ...

Aww, that's my hometown. Before we moved to where my parents live now, we used to live by there. That poor poodle is going to be so sad when the other one passes. I know that clinic too. It's fairly new. I applaud them for taking care of the pups. How sweet.

How sad, and how nice that the poodle stood by her friend. I hope that their former owner didn't just throw them out when he realized the Rottie needed vet care ...

I am so glad someone stopped when she saw them & then got help
to move them. I don't think the "owner" could say they didn't know the
dog needed a Vet. Did you see the size of that tumor?
