"Time and unforeseen occurrence befall us all." Ecclesiastes 9:11
That's pretty darn scary, Mary. I see that and think of my 17 yr old granddaughter. She says she doesn't drive and use her cell phone and I believe her - but there's always that nagging thought in the back of my mind.......
And that little daredevil went parasailing today as part of her birthday gift. The more challenging - the better she likes it. I'm just a big wimp!!
I know I absolutely refuse to answer or use my cell when I'm driving. If I absolutely have to, I will pull off the road to use it, or if it's an incoming call and someone is in the car with me, they can get it. Otherwise, it will just have to wait.

Ecclesiastes 3:1The clock of life is wound but once and no man has the power
To know just when the hands will stop - on what day, or what hour.
Now is the only time you have, so live it with a will -
Don't wait until tomorrow - the hands may then be still.

I dont get this whole texting thing. I mean if you absolutely need to carry on a conversation, just call them. It's much quicker.
For me, texting comes in handy when I'm in a place where a ringing cell phone would be disturbing, such as a dr's. office or if I'm in a meeting. Other than that, I'm a big one for actually talking to someone.![]()

I do not text and drive.. but I DO talk using my bluetooth while driving. It's no more distracting than singing along to the music on the radio![]()

I gave my Bluetooth to my son but if I need to talk on the cell phone, I use the hands free device. One needs to actually see the keyboard to text but that isn't necessary w/talking on the phone which is no more distracting than if one were talking to the person in the passenger seat but texting is ridiculously stupid to do while driving.

My phone has a full flip out qwerty keyboard so I can text without looking just fineThat doesn't mean I'm dumb enough to DO it while driving though

with my husband 1000 miles away we do a lot of communicating by him sending me a message from windows messenger and me texting him back. I got an unlimited plan because i text pretty much all day every dayI think I could probably type in my sleep
I didn't mean to hijack the thread!
Texting while driving is bad bad bad!!

Not everyone is in agreement that talking on the phone while driving is as safe as talking to a fellow passenger.
SOURCEDrivers talking by cell phone drove significantly worse than drivers talking to passengers. The cell-phone users were more likely to drift in their lane, kept a greater distance between their car and the car in front, and were four times more likely to miss pulling off the highway at the rest area. Passenger conversation barely affected all three measures.
My sister and my niece (who is 17) got me started on text messaging. I am not coordinated enough to talk on my cell phone while I'm driving, let alone send a text. After trying to type text messages I can see why people who do a lot of them like a qwerty keyboard. My brother uses his at work for conveying information (was that measurement 50 or 15 inches - it can make a big difference if heard and transcribed wrong).

Thanks for posting this; this is exactly the reason why using a mobile phone, unless it's hands free, was banned in the UK.
Earlier today I saw a cyclist texting whilst riding along the road. If you shouldn't text in a vehicle, then surely you shouldn't text on a bike - you still need to pay just as much attention to the road and oncoming traffic.
