Skylar's First Vacation

Last weekend Skylar came along for the ride to a typical weekend on the Buffalo River.



Skylar hates car rides, and 4 hours of transit was not his cup of tea.



He made it, though! Skylar was excited to be around a bunch of new people. He loves making friends. :-)



My uncle's dog, Snickers, came along for the trip, too.









Snicks lived up to being a lab... she got every inch of herself wet.



Skylar just frolicked in the shallow end... he never gets anything above his elbows wet.



Once we were all back at the cabin Snicks and Skylar started to play more. I was surprised at how submissive Snicks was towards Skylar... afterall, Skylar is just a big baby. They got along great, though.



They even learned how fun it is to beg for food together.



I was very tempted to snatch this girl up and take her home with me. I am such a sucker for chocolate labs.

Here is Ethan's "I-can't-believe-you-came-back-to-save-me!" look.

Ethan... did not do too well at the kennel where we boarded him. He was boarded in the same run as Sala, so we thought he would just mind himself.
We arrived Sunday to pick them up and immediately heard Ethan barking.
And he's not a barker. I knew what kind of bark this was, and he was mad about something.

We walked inside and the woman who runs the place told us ALL about the weekend.
Sala was a "complete angel". No surprise there!
Ethan was a complete mess....

Frequently they let the dogs out into the yard one run at a time. Apparantly when they let Ethan and Sala out Ethan refused to come back in. They tried every trick in the book, but in the end it took four people and an hours worth of their time to capture him. After that he would not let anyone near him...

When we walked to the back to retrieve our dogs Ethan saw the owner of the kennel before he saw us standing there. The hair all along his back was standing straight up and he was trying to sound as fierce as he could. As soon as we said his name and he saw us it was like a complete turnaround, though. We entered the kennel and he was the first to cover us with kisses (and he has never kissed us before...). He even let the owner of the kennel pet him! Thankfully she knows his background and understands that he is not a mean dog.


We had a wonderful weekend, but I am very happy to be home where I know all of my pack is comfortable and happy.

Great pictures! I'm in love with Labs, too. They're amazing dogs. Aw, poor Ethan - did he not like the manager? What kind of dog is Skylar, a husky mix? Whatever he is, he's unique.

Ethan, I am so sorry you had a rough time at the kennel. Skylar and Snickers, you are beautiful! If you came to me begging together I would not be able to resist you. Bring Ethan with you!

Awwwww......it looks like Skylar had a great time with his buddy, Snickers. What a couple of cutie patooties!! Great pictures.

I loved the story about Ethan and the batking and kissing. He was a very happy boy. Ethan: I'm sorry you didn't like that place. I know you're glad the family is back. Be a good boy!

Wowie Skylar is one HANDSOME pup!

Looks like a lot of fun at the River. Eli would have had a blast! He love love loves water. He'll dive for rocks.. sticks his whole head under to get the one we threw.. pretty funny to watch. He'll do it in the kiddy pool too!

Thanks for the nice replies.

We would have taken Ethan and Sala with us, but there just wasn't much room in the truck this time. My mum's friend told us that he would be more than happy to watch our dogs next time we go on vacation.

Aw, poor Ethan - did he not like the manager? What kind of dog is Skylar, a husky mix? Whatever he is, he's unique.

I think Ethan was just afraid because he did not know who to trust. I have also been told that he acts in a similar way when I am gone. I guess I am like his safety net and he only feels safe when I am near.


And we believe Skylar is a Husky/German Shepherd mix. He looks a tad bit funny in the pictures since he had recently been shaved. He usually has a bit more hair than that.
