    Do You live near New York City?

    For those of you who live close to New York City, some wonderful events

    HOUND EVENTS

    Saturday, September 28. 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
    THE 2nd ANNUAL GREAT AMERICAN MUTT SHOW
    Naumberg Bandshell, Central Park, Manhattan
    Devoted to hounds of mixed ancestry, the Great American Mutt Show will
    have mutts vying for the Blue Ribbon in such categories as "What Else Am
    I?" (where an award will go to the most intriguing breed mix, among
    others), "World's Highest Jumper" and "Best Trick. As well, this event
    will includes mutt demonstrations of agility, tricks and athletic ability;
    a parade of last year's winners; and plenty of dogs up for adoption.
    Hosted by Tails in Needs, a non-profit dedicated to encouraging the
    adoption of the mixed-breed dogs, the Mutt Show is free to all. All mutts
    are invited to compete, but to do so they must register as soon as
    possible (the competition is limited to the first 200 dogs to register).

    DACHSHUND OCTOBERFEST
    Washington Square Park, Manhattan
    As many as 500 Dachshunds have been known to meet under the arch on the
    northern side of Washington Square Park for the Dachshund Friendship
    Club's semi-annnual Dachshund Fests. As a sign of their devotion to their
    dachsies, attendees occasionally sing The Dachs Song, the lyrics of which
    can be found at http://www.cygnus.uwa.edu.au/~opalowl/Song.html . To
    subscribe to the Dachshund Friendship Club's newsletter and to become a
    member, send a check for $12 to club founder Adrian Milton, 245 East 11th
    Street, New York, NY 10003.

    Saturday, October 19. 8:30 am to 1 pm (rain date: October 20)
    MY DOG LOVES CENTRAL PARK COUNTRY FAIR
    Northeast Corner of The Great Lawn, Central Park, Manhattan
    This event, organized by the Central Park Conservancy and Central Park
    PAWS, should be fun. Admission is free and all dogs, kids and grownups are
    invited. The guest of honor is Clifford the Big Red Dog. Among the
    activities planned: games, contests, raffles, pet tricks, agility trials,
    obedience demos, Canine Good Citizen Testing, and on and on. Check the web

    BARC's ANNUAL ANIMAL SHOW AND PARADE
    Williamsburg/Greenpoint, Brooklyn
    The terrific animal shelter BARC (officially known as The Brooklyn Animal
    Resource Coalition) is hosting its 16th Annual Mixed Breed/All Breed Dog
    Show. Dogs, their humans and other fans of the four-legged are invited to
    view the madness as hounds of all size, shape and origin battle for such
    titles as as Best Owner-Dog Look-alike, Best Trick, Best Costume, and Best
    Butt.
    The event begins at noon with a one-mile parade that starts in front of
    BQE Pet Supply and Grooming at North 1st Street and Wythe Avenue,
    Williamsburg, and end at McCarren Park in Greenpoint, where the actual
    show begins at 1:30 pm. The event is open to all and free to most (dog
    show competitors must pay a small registration fee). For more details,

    Wish I still did, Jackie! What great events! We're having the annual Pets Masquerade Parade this weekend. Every kind of pet, from snake to horse is decked in his/her finery, parading down main street! Lots of free food, for humans and critters and free promotional items and info. from tons of animal groups. I'm going to go and take lots of pics!! Hope to share them with you all!

    Sandra, you have all the fun, I think because we have warm weather people are outside doing outdoor sports etc. etc. but then again with all the nice weather you would think it would be great to have some kind of animal events, but not much to speak of here.
    The last week it was so hot, I had two fans on at night to try to keep us cool, it was in the ninties and didn't cool down at night like it usually does, but today is quite a bit cooler. That's one of the reasons it's good to live in a smaller town or city. When my Aunt lived in Chepachet, Rhode Island, I just loved going there, everybody knew each other and we would sit and rock on her porch and talk to everybody going by and usually with a pup with them. lol
    Don't forget, lots of pictures. lol
